To care about levels, you either should have an interest in

1. Badge collection (though leveling is an ancillary effect of gathering badges)

2. Having a large list of friends

3. Being able to use more showcases on your profile

4. Having a slightly better chance at getting gratis booster packs (either for badges, again, or to sell)

5. The .... questionable .... impetus to impress some people, who think high level indicates some sort of authority (and it’s sketchy to level up for such a purpose).

If you don't currently care about levels, then that's a good thing.

Here are the kinds of benefits you get from leveling up your profile:
* more friends list capacity, which is only really meaningful if you have like 200+ friends.
* occasionally, a space for a Steam profile showcase box, which is obviously just tied to Steam
* occasionally, increased chance of getting trading card booster packs, which in turn help you level up. (unless you sell them for Steam Wallet credit on the Steam Community Market, in which case you can use that money to buy games...but only on Steam.)

So basically, it's just a way to make you more invested in using Steam more and more.

I mean, I like having more badges and art stuff on my profile? But beyond that the mere idea of gaming this extremely weak system for any reason is dumb as hell, and opens people up to a multitude of problems - which we see on a DAILY sometimes HOURLY basis here.

"But that site is legit! I saw it in a youtube video!"

"That guy got his account unbanned!"

"his profile has lots of +rep!! he must be totally okay to trade off steam with!"

....

People are dumb as a sack of hammers, sometimes.

I mean that's nice and all but ... don't get too comfortable doing so.
Well you can definitely perfect trading techniques to trade up to stuff, but...then you've basically turned this into a job, and all you're getting out of it is more videogames and more social features for your videogames.

for me it's not really about levels, but if you craft and sell the right stuff, you never have to invest your own money anymore to buy new games.

you just use 50% for new gems and games to craft and 50% for stuff you want

You're investing your time to do that. That time could be used to make more money through the real stock exchange for example. Or doing more work etc.

How much time you need to spend to buy an AA game with just crafting?

I don't do levels either. Yeah. Maybe create them, but that's about it.
