2. Add each other in Steam/Rockstar launcher
3. Start the game
4. One of you (you) invites all the others into their lobby
Would be nice to know the wished genres but overall I would suggest:

Thanks will check it out.
... have you even read how old their kids are?
Ouch :D
some cartoon violence but a very simple and addicting coop game

Portal coop, clever thinking.
Just because the playerbase is that young doesn't mean that it's good to recommend a shooter to a kid?
- simply having an online multiplayer can't really seen as pros since there are hundreds of well made local multiplayer games
- Not everyone is a fan of community mods, they have limitations and often really wacky and crudely made.
- Kids could hate it when they're keep getting headshotted within a matter of seconds and forced to spectate for an entire round afterwards
This is the first time i'm seeing someone recommending Trackmania as the alternative to CSGO,
but it is nonetheless great game, my brother and i used to make and share tracks, sometimes near impossible ones to compare our skills. but i'd rather recommend United Forever instead of its sequel.
In my opinion an 8 and 12yo "kid" can play those, only if the parent wants, ofc.
You dont have to be +18 to play CS:GO lmao not even that good. Even some anime gore novel could be way more inappropiate than planting/defusing a bomb. An inappropiate game for example could be GTFO (that this is the best multiplayer game I ever played). Anyways.
Right now there's a perfect sale for fighter games you can try those.
My fav game is ARK and its multiplayer kinda a big game tho. If you dont Dinosaurs don't even take a look :)

or

this is way too fun but difficult at the same time :D
I saw some comments about Stardew Valley, I played that like more than 100 hours and FOR ME it gets way too repetitive and slow. I linked Terraria, way more stuff to do. Not similar games. Stardew is more "farm" terraria is more "survival"
https://store.steampowered.com/app/105600/Terraria/
Also Raft, It can be repetitive at the start but after it its so fun.

The only one I can recommend that is so good its ARK, I am dont know your kids game likes tho, for example if I only knew their type of games It would be easier. I did play all these games and I am just giving a few suggestions of the best games I played multiplayer, this is my opinion tho. Since someone said "watch their age" I didnt really pick any FPS >.>
But yeah ARK, Its so fun, and the difficulty can be changed to easy to way too hard. Also you have to kill Dinosaur to get meat and you can see 1% blood, and you can get klled by Dinosaur ofc. I dont know if that will be the reason of not trying it >.>
Edit. If they like car games. OFC and without thinking.
