Whats the dumbest thing you got banned for on steam?
Me, I put up non-porn screenshots of a hentai game that only had nudity available in the game, so it was just nude screenshots of what was essentially handdrawn artwork. And then I got a 7 day suspension from posting any community content...despite the game only being viewed by those who say they are "18" (kids can still say it but oh well lol) or older, and it was a literal hentai game...so I guess steam hates hentai but allowed the game. But was definitely the stupidest thing I got in trouble for on steam, because that meant no one could actually put any screenshots of that game at all without getting in trouble, so one could go to the game community page and just report every single person on there.

I wasnt even angry either, it was so dumb it actually made me laugh so I joke about it all the time lol. But was definitely the dumbest thing I got a community suspension for on steam lol.

You ever been banned for anything dumb on steam? I know sometimes one can be banned on a game forum page. I've heard some funny stories out of there.

Yes and its funny because my post should no be considered into that category
I though he wanted to buy the game on other platform(gog, website, etc)
So I said 'yes :P'

Then I got banned for that
i used to be very angry after I got that ban because I cant understand why
In that case the moderator may not have seen the context that you wanted to purchase from another legitimate source. You have to be careful about other users "dogwhistling" about piracy; users often look for ways to circumvent the moderators.
Changing of words, changing phrases, "dogwhistling" - if people need to be crafty to not be hit, then the problem is the way they react to the content.

In his example of "yes", it could be "just buy somewhere cheaper elsewhere", could be piracy - if a mod doesn't know but suspects, it seems like a bad move unless they say something specific to suggest doing such. This is where translation = offense, where none exists. This is likely why their rep gets hit so hard, is people get craftier to stay within the confines of the rules because what they would normally say, may be deemed "offensive" or "insulting", when it is far from that, but someone with power deems it is. Which reminds me of R.E. forums.

It's a bad habit to judge others by yourself. I hope the moderators will understand this someday.
Kind of like why sometimes I add "not sure if you're serious or trolling" to some posts when claiming to have an issue, and giving basically potato specs - I have to respond entirely seriously and professionally to not get hit, as I can't judge if they're trolling or really do have something outdated and truly have no idea why it performs terribly in the task.

Though those usually magically disappear shortly after, hard to tell if the OP deletes, a mod, or otherwise. We (site I used to help run) used to rotate mods around so they didn't get jaded and judge more than Judge Dredd.

Judge Dredd was principled and incorruptible.
Some Steam moderators are corrupt, unprincipled and shameless.
They ban people simply for giving their opinion on a product when only rave reviews are allowed on a moderated thread.
These characters turn the Steam community into a rotten trash heap, contrary to their very purpose. And I really hope that Steam will solve this problem soon enough.
I got banned once for impolitely calling out someone on their behavior. I knew I was gonna get banned when I wrote the message but I felt like the person deserved it.

Personally, I didn't see any global mod being "corrupted". As for the hub mods, you'll have to take it up to the hub's developper/publisher as they're the one appointing them.
Messaggio originale di lolic_lol:
Insult? Maybe you will explain to the millions of fanboys in the world that they are an insult.
What? Insults are words, not people. Fanboys aren't insults, the word fanboy is an insult.

Messaggio originale di lolic_lol:
And yes, if I call the cashier a cashier - is that also an insult?
Uh, no? The fact that fanboy is an insult doesn't magically make all words insults. Weird question.

Messaggio originale di lolic_lol:
And, of course, my favorite. Referring to fanboys (without mentioning specific names) is an insult.
I don't know the context of the post you're seemingly referring to, but as a general comment I'd note that using insults doesn't require naming specific people. Like if I started to rant about "all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ posting here" [hi mods, just an example], that would be an insult, even if I didn't name any particular person. Insults levelled against groups are incredibly common.

I'm not talking about global mods. But in specific topics, paid moderators, judging by the reaction of the support service, are the norm.

Why? Why cassier is not insult, but fanboy is. What exactly is the euphemism for fanboy here?
I ask seriously, as I am Russian. I know that in some countries the words mother and father are an insult. Parent 1 and Parent 2 only. How am I supposed to understand what the words like gamer, fanboy, cheater etc are insult? Somewhere in Steam there is a list of perverted interpretations?

Messaggio originale di Gus the Crocodile:
I don't know the context of the post
You're right, you don't know the context. But I gave it on one of the last pages (post 125). There were no insults. It was an ordinary dialogue, an answer to a question. No insults, no change of topic, etc.
Why am I repeating this? Once again - I was banned for TROLLING. And that was an insult. I hope that, unlike the moderators, you understand the meaning of this term.

It's a derogatory term, as opposed to just "fan", which is more neutral (though still sometimes used in a negative sense).

A fan has enjoys and appreciates something a lot, and is probably knowledgeable about it.

A fanboy takes that to the extreme, taking criticism of the thing personally, becoming aggressive, blowing things out of proportion, etc. To call someone a fanboy is to suggest they've become irrational or obsessive about the object in question.

At least, that's what it means to me. Others may feel differently.

I suspect you've been misinformed. A place using more inclusive categories in official communication doesn't mean they consider the words mother and father to be insults. It's just that some kids have two fathers, or two mothers, so it's better to not to assume one parent is a mother and the other a father.

Just the nature of learning a language, I guess. Sucks to get in trouble for things you weren't aware of, of course.
I once got banned for a snarky comment on some crappy indie game (I was more or less sticking up for a user curious about a game whose own developer had to be a smartass about) but surprisingly got removed by an awesome mod. Since then I've mellowed out and I'm not as snarky myself these days. Call it a revelation, I guess :P.

Speak your mother language and dominate english users

But even IF so, I did not call anyone specifically a fanboy. I referred to fanboys. And I still don't see anything in it that would break even one rule. If I write that there are many cheaters in the game - is this an insult to the cheaters? This is nonsense.
Messaggio originale di Gus the Crocodile:

May be. But I have already heard and read enough chilling stories about SJW actions. I'm not going to criticize these freaks, but I'm sure that their rules are inappropriate in decent society.

It is hard to believe. I tried googling for quite some time and found no references to the fact that the word fanboy is abusive or offensive. I only get to fanboy sites, but not to sites that say why this word is offensive. It might have something to do with the 2009 Fanboys movie, but I doubt it.

In any case, this is an abstract question. I was banned not for using "unauthorized in Steam" words, but for trolling. Where is trolling in my post - none of the moderators could explain. Enough has been said.

Ok, from Urban Dictionary:

Fanboy
An extreme fan or follower of a particular medium or concept, whether it be sports, television, film directors, video games (the most common usage), etc.

Known for a complete lack of objectivity in relation to their preferred focus. Usually argue with circular logic that they refuse to acknowledge. Arguments or debates with such are usually futile. Every flaw is spun into semi-virtues and everything else, blown to comedic, complimentary proportions.

It's all 100% facts. And this is a clear description of the people with whom I spoke.
But where is the confirmation that this word is an insult? This is just a statement of fact.
Once again, if you mention people (without specifying specific names) who use cheats, calling them cheaters is it an insult or not? Any adequate person will answer - no. Despite the fact that this word is more negative. But yes, I'm sure there will be sjw-freaks who will find this an insult, because cheaters should be called alternatively honest players.

Lollic_lol: you have been explained various times now why calling people names is not OK around here. You can label it swj or whatever you want, we like to think a gaming forum could could with decent human beings, giving feedback is only valuable if it's not filled with flame fests and so on.

If you disagree, that's fine - heck, to an extend I do - but this might not be the place for you.
@KillahInstinct Yes, and that's just great, because I haven't named anyone.
If I wrote to someone a "You f...ing fanboy" post - there would be fewer questions. I didn't.
I wrote a polite post in response to a question in which I referred to fanboys, without specifying specific personalities.
Once again, who exactly did I insult, and how can a polite post on a topic be trolling?

Whether you are directing it at a specific user or to the community as a whole is irrelevant.
