Scammers / Hackers doing the rounds.

Hello there, just want to inform everyone to be on the lookout for a scam going around. A friend unfortunately fell for this scam, and there was an attempt (through my friends' account) to scam myself and goodness knows how many others with this opening message:

"I'm having a hard time to confess it to you, I hope you don't get mad Because I accidentally reported you for doing illegal purchased instead of someone else the admin said your account will be permanently suspended"

This will pan out as you contacting an "admin" who will attempt to convince you that they are Steam staff. They may continue to talk here, or move to Discord as I have seen them do in this case. They will request a screenshot of account information to prove your ownership, and they will ask for your details. After they have your account information, they will ask for the verification code sent to your e-mail / phone / steam guard under the guise of "verification" of account ownership.

Once they have your account, they will request you buy a steam gift card that they will claim and then refund.

They are known to account hop, and spam friend requests to anyone they can so they can message and scam the next person.

This does not fall on stupidity or naivety, one bad day can influence anyone's headspace and decision-making, so even if this may sound "obvious" to some, please do not leave any harsh comments. This post is just here as a heads-up and for anyone facing the scare of this scam.

I would also like to confirm that my friend has gotten back their steam account in the span of 8 hours, and luckily nothing is missing and no money was spent. Thank you to the steam staff that helped.

Yeah, same thing happened with me, my account got hacked but the steam support team was able to help me get my account back.

Really? I'm pretty sure i would never fall for someone saying a Steam admin wants to speak to me on Discord, and then giving a stranger all of my info right away, even when i'm having a bad day.

But i guess you somehow do have a point since there are hundreds of victims every day. So i'm not gonna leave a harsh comment, but we really need more educational tools in terms of internet security on both Steam and Discord.

Anybody trying to convince you they are an Admin in these forums, this should have blown bells and whistles in your head.

You should have contacted support and reported it, if it was legit they would have told you.

Pretty simple huh.
