Steam Keeps Logging Me Out
I don't know what happened but Steam randomly logged me out and now when I log back in, it keeps open in the background when I check my Task Manager but it will not let me open the Steam client at all. I've tried force ending Steam and reopening it as well as restarting my computer. I have also done Troubleshoot Compatibility and no luck.

Any ideas?

Delete everything in the Steam folder except SteamApps and Steam.exe. Doubleclick that Steam.exe. That will have Steam rebuild itself from scratch.

it's still doing the same thing

Start your system in safe mode (for obvious reasons with networking). Does Steam start then?

Replug all USB device keyboard mouse and controller ,not a joke , see its as ruleout and it not that issue. Also known as reset usb Configuration and it reinstall driver and refresh them.

Use windows event viewer why does steam.exe app crash.

Also added it to antivirus app exception rule another ruleout issue.

ps.
plenty of guides with reinstall to flush steam, keep track of what you have done . gl with it.

You can find other guide, but if flush dont work, i will say you are in trouble and with no why crash happend, feel free to try restore last working windows point to this and avoid DL + reinstall all games.
and let steam or should i said refresh steam.
cant say whats wrong, but no bone to chew on what is wrong.

Do take backup of steam folders or rename it to steam.old

#:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps ( installed games )
#:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam\games ( .ico )( icon's files to all desktop shortcut's )
#:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata ( save games ) depend on game devs use this place.
#:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config\avatarcache ( profile picture ) (is at steam server user profile)
#:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\(((# steam userID nr. #)))\remote\((( another steam ID nr.)))\screenshots.
#:\program files (x86)\steam\Backups

move game folder to same place where it once was + steam.exe reclick steam.exe and let it rebuild itself upagain. takes time.

and that is why you have old steam folder so you dont get lost data and maybe local save games and other thing.

do note, this i just what folder i have notice with userdata , there could be more.

this is to avoid lost icon and other things discover over time alot of user figureout down the road

gl with it

this is still same old reset steam and keep its game to avoid DL and reinstall all , its just some abit more with added it back into new steam install.

Things you can do:

  • Restart PC.
  • Opt into, or out of Steam beta.
  • Ensure 3rd party software isn't hooking into the client, not messing with it file and permissions, such as 3rd party anti virus, or so.
  • Redownload client files, head to where install Steam, go into the folder, delete everything except for Steamapps folder and steam.exe file, once done run Steam.exe file and test.

When sign in, ensure you check the box for remember so it remembers you, as well ensure the box is uncheck for Steam settings for don't remember this account as that will remove the remember.

If you use VPN, proxy, or such to spoof your location this be reason why you get log out, also if you're using router that connected to your modem ensure it not causing problems.

I have done all of this, however I cannot do anything with Steam beta because I cannot even get into the client.

Only thing in this I have not done is restoring Windows but if that were the fix, would other stuff on my PC not be affected somehow?

Start in Windows safe mode with network enable, don't run anything, you're testing to see if Steam launches, and works in safe mode, if it does, then means something on your windows normal side is messing with Steam.

Also do ensure if you're using router, or such, or setup a custom firewall, ensure that not blocking things such as protocols or so, as that be why can't connect to steam servers if they were causing the issue.
Iceira Jun 16, 2021 @ 8:40pm
As shadows also say , and dont forget SFC /scannow ( google it )

we try alot of things to avoid such, but still in the end with no error msg or windows event viewer log why a app crash, it can be a pain to figure it out , ask any here sometime reinstalll windows or reset it, can be faster hen deal with whatever it is.

and you should have backup of your data no matter what. try restore a previous system files then it work last time.

and NO you will not get old advice with start over anymore, its your choise and then you had enough say so.

and what if you have change ISP and forgot to mention this, even that can effect such.

steam traffic not open. ( and there is simple to many missing information , other then it has worked before )

It did not work when I launched in safe mode but when I launched back regularly, it fixed. so weird, I had restarted my computer 4 times before.
