Can I change where my SAVE files are stored for a particular game?
I have two hard drives, when a game automatically SAVES the game slows down, I would like to move those SAVED files from C: to D: Is there a way to easily do this?

No; I don't think I've ever seen a game that lets you configure the save file location.

If the saves are stored in the My Games/Saved Games folders in the My Documents folder, it might be possible by moving the My Documents folder to your D-drive. Never tested it, though.

It's done differently for Win 7 or 10, so Google it depending on which you have.

It is unlikely that the drive usage is causing this, even if the savegame is +100mb

It is definitely the problem, it ONLY occurs when the game is saving the file, it shows when it is doing so, at no other time do I experience this 'lag'.

Yes, but then it does not matter which drive. The writing should not cause that.

Yes, but then it does not matter which drive. The writing should not cause that.

The game executable is on the C drive, if I move the save files to the D drive, the activity of the "save" on the D drive, will NOT affect the game play on the C drive. What I need to know is if there is a way to move the save files to the D drive, but it appears that this cannot be done.

If the writing would cause it,
reading would cause lags too.

You might actually be able move the savefile location by creating an NTFS symlink in the old place, to redirect the directory to a different location. However, this can be slightly tricky for an user, as Windows doesn't come with a GUI tool to create such links (these are NOT shortcuts).

I believe if I do this that the save files will then be on the D drive and I will be in the same situation.

OP. Check the game's cfg and ini files. Thats where you can specify things like safe locations. Of course which file and what you actuallyu have to sepcify are different from game to game. so you'd do better to ask around the forum of the game you want to change the save locattion for.
