Microsoft flight sim purchasing when using it on game pass already
If I purchase the Sim do I have to remove the game pass version and download the Steam one?

Better ask on the game forum. As far as Steam is concerned, no. But whether you'll end up with two installs of the game taking up heaps of sapce or whether the launcher will use the existing install, is up to the game.

Thanks anyway, I was just wanting to avoid that massive download again If I can't get a reliable answer I will delete all
first. I still have about 2 weeks left before my next payment.

You will have to download again. Games downloaded from the Microsoft store have a totally different file structure, they dont even have a game exe.
Also, the installation folders for Gamepass games are completely hidden and inaccessible for the normal user.
If you buy the game on Steam it will have to be downloaded again into your Steam games folder.

They do. Every single game from the Windows store and every single game pass game have an executable file.

They do not have a classic game exe. They have a executable app file that only works over the Xbox App Installation.
So again, he has to download the game again.

They have an EXE file though. And that EXE file gets called by the "XBox App installation".

Not all of it. The launcher, yes. The whole of the game, no. I mean, you know a game isn't only an EXE file, right? There's other files, like textures, meshes, basically all the assets. Hell, even code isn't all contained in that one EXE. For large games like the Flight Simulator, over 90% of files aren't EXE or any other form of code.
