Evil Genius (1) supported OS?
I saw the game Evil Genius is for sale. System requirements say windows XP and Vista, but that surprises me because I thought no one was running those systems anymore, let alone running Steam on them. Does Steam have a way for me to play it on my Windows 10 x64 pc?

It should work. Windows 10 is backwards-compatible with most programs made for previous versions, and 64-bit architecture is still able to run 32-bit programs, though you may need to put some work in. Check the game's Discussions forums for posts on the topic. If it doesn't work, make sure you've refunded it before you've owned it for longer than two weeks and had more than two hours of playtime.

There is a way to run it on Windows 10. Search the forums here.

Altho, try it first. A lot of people have trouble, others don't. Personally, I didn't have any troubles, but hardly a week goes by where I don't read about somebody having something not working. But most of the common problems have solutions, and they're all documented in the forums somewhere.

BTW, search in the Evil Genius forums, not the Steam Community.

I thought this topic was about Kali Linux.

A shame...

So I guess my questions(s) should have been 1) how can Steam sell this game to me if it doesn't run, and 2) how can they support such an old game (if they sell it, they support it) if it may not run at all?

And the answers to that are pretty simple, as the game does run, the developers are responsible for support (not Steam) and the customer is responsible for his own research.

I have the GoG version, not sure if it differs a lot from the Steam version, but it works without much issues. Had to do something to get the resolution that I wanted, but other than that no issues.

I'm also curious why you would expect Steam to support it? Local brick & mortar stores don't provide such support, why would this be any different in an online store?

Who says it doesn't run?

Because the game devs haven't updated the store page for years.

Yes you can play the game on Windows 10, ask in the game sub forum, or look in the game guides for a guide how to play the game. You may be required to either run game in compatibility mode, need to edit certain files in notepad, and/or apply a patch.

This is PC not console, if you're expecting to be serve with a silver spoon, you choose the wrong platform, and you should be on console instead.

Game runs, if you put minute or so into getting it to work, this apply to some of the old games on Steam, and GoG.

Why Steam shouldn't sell old games? Also if you're too lazy to do the work, don't choose PC as your gaming platform, go to console if you're incapable of looking up a guide how to run the game.

9 times out of 10 there will be a pinned topic in the discussions laying out the compatibility mode settings needed (if any)
