nvidia shield left joystick behavior
I connected my nvidia shield controller to windows 10 with an AMD video card. I did install the mini driver someone wrote when you don't have the nvidia software installed, but I don't think it is being used. The controller pretty much works and windows 10 understood it out of the box. Plus it works the same by wire or bluetooth. However, it shows up as an xbox controller in steam and the left joystick only moves on the diagonal. I see a bunch of advanced options but any idea how to tweak things to fix this movement?

Disable Steam's input mapper for starters. If that thing supports XInput, Steam's input mapper is superfluous.

From what I read online the controller is not xinput. But to be sure when you say disable you just mean don't let steam do the game mappings? If I don't do those the controller does not function in the game. There is a setting in the additional configuration to set a cross deadzone. That seems like what I want because it would make movement off center less likely to pop to a corner, but even if I make the cross really fat it seems to have no effect. Game I'm testing with is witcher 3. Right joystick is behaving analog and looks fine. Any other suggestions?

Ah, nevermind. I had to calibrate it in the windows "Set Up USB Game Controller" app. I had tried to calibrate in steam but I guess the windows one was needed first. Works perfect now.
