Download speeds fluctuating.
Anyone else have this problem? I've been having this problem today where the download speed often dips to 0 and then fluctuates wildly all over the place. Internet speed are fine, I've tested it.

Look at what's going on right now.

What do you mean? My download speeds? They still fluctuate pretty badly but my internet speed is okay otherwise.

Yeah but it has been going on for a good while and this problem started just recently.

Doesn't matter. Bandwidth and server hits vary at times and locations. Also remember that today is the last day, likely causing even higher usage rates. http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

Hmm, it seems that my speeds fluctuate also in GOG and other places...so might be a problem at my end...or at my ISP provider's end...

Tested it, it fluctuates quite badly. My current ISP provider has had some serious internet speed problems recently in this area.

Old thread but saw this and wanted to throw out some alternative possibilities because saying "ISP speed fluctuations" is a pure cop-out. I encounter fluctuations every single time I download games from Steam with no exception. After it's been downloading and gets to a halfway point it'll start to stabilize but it always starts that way. I have a 250 mbps business class ISP connection. Never fluctuates, even during peak times which is why i pay extra for it. I can download 200 to 300 GB worth of data without fluctuations from Azure or AWS servers with practically no fluctuations. What people are seeing is more likely the result of a combination of load balancing, traffic monitoring for things like intrusion prevention, and CDN load switching when switching from one overloaded datacenter to a less busy datacenter, they have them all over the country.

Considering the fact that these complaints of speed fluctuations go back for years it's probably a known issue that they've just come to accept rather than resolve because on a large scale resolving speed issues would be a rather massive undertaking admittedly.

The first question people should consider when up against speed fluctuations though is probably if they're using wired or wireless. Wireless connections are severely susceptible to fluctuation because of all sorts of signal interference.

Yeah, sometimes steam download speeds are all over the place. Most of the time they are fine.

Mine were fine for the longest time, and now going back to the most recent sale have been pretty bad. I had to uninstall steam just to get downloads to actually work. Hoping someone can help out.
