What's a great, atmospheric game with a lot of exploration?
There doesn't need to be a ton of story involved, but I'd like to find a great, beautiful, atmospheric exploration-style game to get lost in. Summer Sale seems like a good opportunity.

Games like Firewatch and The Forest come to mind, though I tend to shy away from games where half the point is gathering materials to craft things (Subnautica, No Man's Sky...).

The game "Prey" had, for me, surprisingly a lot of story in it. It almost felt like the people in the game had a purpose and a reason to be where they were and not just randomly placed anywhere.

But check out the game "Space Engine", it's all about exploring:

Don't think it can get any bigger! ;P

I liked the original Prey, but heard mixed reviews about the remake, so I mostly ignored it. May check it out!

Space Engine looks neat. Thanks!

To me the new Prey was one of the best games I've ever played. But you know how peoples taste in things are? :P

EDIT: Ohh and I believe there is a free version for the "space engine" on their home page, an older build but still.

I remember that I was stuck on the original Prey for a long time because I think it's the only game featuring a First Nations protagonist I've played besides Never Alone (which is also frickin' great).

To be honest, I had nightmares about the first Prey game. And I was a grown man even then! Even if people might question it! The first part of that game was just a real chock for me.
Yeah, +1 for PREY.
One of the best games i played in the last 10 years.
MUCH better then the original Prey from 2006.

They should just have called it something else, since there is no connection at all.
The new PREY is more like Fallout + System Shock in Space.

The name is a good one but it feels like they tried to use it because of the old game more than to fit their new game. I also hope they will make a Prey 2... Prey again?.. Maybe Prey 2.5, whatever, but I don't think it will happen because everything I like just seem to vanish! :P

Did you play the Mooncrash DLC? Also great, since it introduces a rouge lite element to the whole thing so the replay value is very high.
And yeah, i really wish for a sequel, ( especially after THAT ending) but sadly the sales have been very "meh" so its pretty much up in the stars if we will ever see one.

The Bethesda marketing for the game was TERRIBLE, every trailer made it look like some Borderlands like FPS with wacky aliens and nonstop shooting.
When its much more a RPG/Survival game on a space station with occasional combat.

Space Engine in VR is seriously trippy.

Actually I have not. Didn't even know there was one. But I don't really buy or play many DLC's for games because it feels like they aren't adding that much into the game.

And I can't comment on marketing because the only places I learn about games are 1. Videos given by friends. 2. "Funny" Youtubers I found. 3. Steam Store.
So I think there would have to be a lot of money wasted just to show me some ads. :P

But yeah, what I wouldn't do for more Prey! :(
You have The Vanishing of Ethan Carter in your library but haven't played it. I'd give that a go.
I would suggest Ghost of a Tale, adventure RPG with emphasys on adventure.

Most of exploration games require gathering resources and crafting. In the new Prey, by the way, you also need a lot of materials to manufacture items. Watch this. The only games where you do not need craft is Borderlands 3 and previous of the Saga..

The great beautiful, atmospheric games are Assassins Creed Origins and Odyssey, but you need a lot of materials too to improve your inventory ( unless you use the tricks ). I really do not understand developers, convert the games in annoying chores, look for 3-5 coins or whatever, and then need to spend 1000 at the game´s shop to get new stuff.
