FYI you're going to be very limited where to buy games digitally, just giving you heads up incase you're not aware somehow, where most store fronts clients do not support XP.
Wonder what happen to the people that demanded Windows 98, ME, and 2000 support go? Right... Yea they kind of fade out same that happening to XP isn't that just awkward for you. Welp enjoy your XP.
Striking today is especially difficult. I had a very early breakfast and missed lunch. On top of that I will not be able to eat dinner for another couple of hours. I haven’t eaten in twelve hours. My plan is I will have dinner and then go back on my hunger strike until breakfast. I might be skipping lunch tomorrow but I will persevere! Gotta stick to my principals.
Without Steam .. the people with XP machines would STILL be able to use their software..
Steam says NO.. yes .. power.. and lots of it.
Without Steam a lot of those people wouldn't have bought a lot of that software to begin with. You can't just arbitrarily cross Steam out of narrative methinks.
And Valve axed Win9x support in 2007 and anyone thought that was the last time Valve would sunset support for an OS. Naive...
lol.. don't worry .. Valve is your friend..
Not mine.
The amount of support for Valves crap fest of a control mechanism is appauling.
Valve dont give a crap.. and it really is starting to show.
Again.. I can just imagine when they hit 7 and 8 and early versions of 10 with the same shiz.
Whats next.. whoodoo..
Like when Steam discontinued W2000 before discontinuing XP.
Nothing new under the sun.
They're a business, not your buddy.
exactly they are not our buddy..
but you have certain ties to em..
So no matter what they do you sure are not going to get on their bad side about it.. now are you.
Again.. discs .. without steam would still work.. Yet valve still calls the shots on that one.
Whatever.. no matter what I say . .you guys all jump on it anyways..
Pathetic..
and always will be.
What the hell does my games on my account have any bearing on what I say.. ?
really .
Game developers and publishers make choices, but in your vendetta against Steam you run completely past that.
Valve is not the bane of the industry. They merely run a storefront. It's the game devs and mostly the publishers who make the decisions. Keep in mind that they can easily choose to not use Steam and release games DRM free on GoG for example. Yet most don't. That's not Valves fault.
That I agree on.
So now its the devs fault.. riiiiggghhhtt...
I'm out.
Hypocrisy. You use a platform yet complain of control. Like buying jars of peanut butter whilst having a peanut allergy.
Steam does not need to support XP nor any obsolete operating systems.
Developers are not required to make games backwards compatible nor to ensure software written for a specific operating system needs to function on Windows above that original version.
I want is not an option and player entitlement is a fantasy.
I mean, that's what I'm doing. :)
More accurately: buy games DRM-free, then keep archival copies of the installers.
FYI GOG does support providing older versions of games that they already have on file, so they're more likely to be compatible with older hardware/OSes -- compared to Steam which just updates you to the newest version of the game. (Assuming Steam runs at all on the system in question.)
Also just to put it out there, yes you can download older version of the game for Steam, may even get the very 1st version of the game that was uploaded to Steam, as Steam keeps almost everything it seems, which is a plus.
Though this still wouldn't help if someone couldn't run Steam itself on their computer. Archiving all the things is still the best solution.
