New to Steam, looking for mouse-controlled games
Hi All,

I started out with "The Room" which I really enjoyed (ok, pulled a bit of hair out) and was ready to get my next game. I've never played video games in the past, so I wasn't aware of many things to look for when choosing a game. I ended up with one that I had to use my keyboard on and just found that too hard for me. I just prefer the mouse.

Can someone tell me how to recognize games that use the mouse as controller rather than the keyboard? One game I really want to get is The House of Da Vinci, but I don't want to "buy now" find out later. Wondering if there is a certain "type" to look for or maybe the year it was released?

Any feedback is much appreciated :)

The strategy genre is often playable by using only a mouse. Look for the games that have a top-down perspective.

Multi player types I imagine. Ok, well, I'm finding some things googling to help as well. I do appreciate your feedback. Is there no place to "like" or give you credit for answering a post? I don't see any??

On the store page for the specific game, on the right side, you will find a tag "full controller support" or "partial controller support".

Those tell you games that can be played with a controller.

Otherwise, the expectation is that ALL PC games will use a mouse and keyboard as the default controls.

Even the games that have controller support can still be played with a mouse and KB; though there are some games that are BETTER played with a controller, there is no reason a mouse & kb cant be used.

Thank you much, I suppose I figured buying a Gaming PC meant "mouse" only. Didn't know I'd have to learn keyboard. Although some games you don't need to know keys like the game I just finished, The Room by Fireproof. That's what I prefer, mouse only.

Ok, I will follow your directions in the search for my next game!!

If you want "mouse only" games; one genre would be "point and click adventure"; usually no KB at all required for those.

Lots of the puzzler/casual type games are that way too, depending on what youre into.

Learning t ise the keyboard is rather easy. Played an FPS myself before i could the properly. Give it a try, practice, you'll enjoy it!
... Or get a gamepad. The PC is a flexible platform, I have a couple gamepads attached to mine as some games are simply better suited for those.

How to explain this... hmm... let´s see. :-?

If you have a bird that soars through the sky, and looks down below. That bird has a top-down perspective. :OGOA:
The bird is on top, and looks down below. So it looks at things from a top-down perspective.

This makes sense, right? I'm not sure how else I could explain it to you.

(Some groups of people are taught calling it a bird perspective, but that does not really make sense, in my opinion, because not all birds fly. So, you have to call it a top-down perspective.)
