Just once I'd like to actually own a physical copy!
I wish I could actually get a physical copy of a PC game instead of digital copy. I would at least like to have the option to collect a real copy or have a download copy. Mortal Kombat 11 I want to have for my collection of a physical copy with a box on PC.

GameStop can't be the only store carrying games. Germany can't be the only country there is where I can get retail copies in at least 3 chains and then theres still Amazon selling them as well.

I mean just go to Amazon USA and try to buy a PC physical copy

- AC Oddessy? Nope!
- Pre order Three Kingdoms Total War? Nope!
- Metro Exodus? Nope!

I mean they got Rage2 I guess. But honestly its harder even on Amazon to find physical copies. The ones you do inevitably are imports from Europe.

Even if you go to Target/Walmart, you're basically looking at

Skyrim
Overwatch
Diablo
Starcraft
Warcraft
GTAV
Sims4
MAYBE you might find a COD game

And like thats literally it

I love how people defend digital platforms. Back in 2003, people hated digital platforms, how times have changed.

But pre 2003, if you owned a retail copy of a PC game then that game was yours forever and you could even sell it as a used copy.

Forward 15 years, we don't own any game thats on a digital platform, our games can be taken away from us anytime just because we agree to the eulas and TOS.

PS.. we never owned the licence to a physical copy as such only the media it came on but still it was still ours to do what we liked.

You could not resell a PC game without literally all the baggage that it came with. They were never console-trade worthy.

Digital rights = a far easier method of making sure that people don't steal and redistribute products. A disk is easily copied and photocopies of manuals to produce the copy protection were a thing, if you were paying attention in the 90s and early 2ks.

You didn't own the game then, either. You still only owned the right to use the game's disk and play it on your - and only your - computer. Your last line seems to indicate you don't really understand your "pre 2003" statement.

I find digital much better, cause had one PC game that I played a lot, and yes, i was like you and preferred Discs, until said disc got scratched and became unplayable, also had one that became warped somehow, digital games don;t do that

There are plenty of them out there. Maybe go to a brick and mortar store and ask them if they have an actual catalog of upcoming releases and order what you can there.

They will be going the way of the dinosaur save for specific editions, for people with more money than good sense. Digital downloads are far more economical and ecologically sound, plus you still have to USE the digital download process to run a game bought on a disk. Remember that those disks aren't somehow adding to the program imprinted on them at production. That's why Steam even exists.

Picking up the side stuff like statues, booklets, posters, figurines - those are things that collectors editions have. Beyond that, there may as well not be ANY data on a disk found in a collector edition product, because by the time it gets to your hands, there have already been half a dozen patches and updates.

Why would game consoles have a disk and PC is digital for the same game? They all have patches & updates and such. Thanks for the imput.

Like one user mentioned, Gamestop refuses to sell PC games, so, pretty much digital became the only way to get games on PC now, and as for updates, all games update, PS3, XBOX, PC, not sure about others

Well yeah, there's millions of gamers who are now old enough to vote and literally can't remember a time when Steam didn't exist. And everyone else who is old enough and was against digital distribution, well their worst fears haven't been realized yet, so either they got on the winning team or are cranks no one listens to.

We used to have a chain called gamestation in the UK back before GAME took them over. They used to trade, buy and sell used PC games. As long as you had all the CD keys and books then you were good to go. You right, they were never like console trading but you were still able to trade them, well for me at least.

So if you wanted to play the game on your parents pc after buying the game from your few coins,
you broke the tos?
If you wanted to play it with your friend on his computer, wrong?

If your father wanted to play it on your computer to make sure the ending of super mario is safe, he left the path?

If parents bought a game for their 2 kids...... they had to explain kid 2, why it isnt allowed to play the game EVER because you only have one game? And explain to kid 1 it isnt allowed to play the game either, because dad bought it and its on his computer?

You see, your statement leaves a lot of questions, not only these.
