Play Steam Games from PC on Living Room TV
Has anyone managed to get a good setup for playing their steam library on a TV from a PC in another room?

I have both the TV and my PC connected to the router via ethernet cable. My TV supports Miracast my PC, however, has no wireless capabilities. Annoyingly I can't seem to connect to my TV over Miracast via just the ethernet cable, my PC needs to support wireless.

I could buy a wireless adapter to plug in a USB port on my PC. This will enable connecting through Miracast although this seems a step back from ethernet. I'd much rather have use of the ethernet cables to avoid latency, both in the media sent to the TV and the commands sent from a steam controller to a remote desktop.

I could get the media through an HDMI cable but this doesn't solve any latency that might occur from the use of a steam controller.

The Steam Link seemed like the perfect solution but it doesn't look like they support it anymore or at least it's not sold in the UK anymore.

So I wonder what people recommend or if anyone has come up with a good setup they wouldn't mind sharing.

You can still grab Steam Links on EBAY for quiet cheap. 20 bucks or so.
They stil work fine ( and should work without problem) the next few years.
So i would just grab one.
BUT, just be aware that the Steam Link can only stream up to 1080p, anything bigger is a no go.

Steam Link works very well, and is super easy to setup, so I recommend you to try and find one in a store. Some might still have one in stock. Or maybe second hand (ebay?). Get the steam hand control as well.

Alternative is to get a mini-pc you can have at your TV, and install Steam on it. The Steam client has the same streaming functions as the Steam Link.
I bought a tiny PC from one of the Chinese web sites (Gearbest.com) for ~150-200 euros, which has enough power to act as a steam link receiver.
It also runs KODI, so I use it as a media player too.

Surprise?

Miracast is a standard for wireless connections from devices (such as laptops, tablets, or smartphones) to displays (such as TVs, monitors or projectors), introduced in 2012 by the Wi-Fi Alliance. It can roughly be described as "HDMI over Wi-Fi", replacing the cable from the device to the display.

I mean Microsoft allows it for the Surface Hub so it's not out of the realms of possibility.

I guess annoying that I can't seem to find a way to stream over Ethernet.

Sure, I might just try and get one then. Hopefully if every device including the TV is connected to the router via Ethernet cable the latency won't be noticeable.
