Realistic Car modification/racing simulation
IDK what it is about sims, but making the most realistic version possible of something is always a joy for me. I don't have money for building my own cars, but I love to tune and refine when I can, even in video games. Can anyone recommend a good simulation game where you can build your car using real world parts? I'm so tired of having just the "street package" or "race tune." I appreciate that forza horizon lets me adjust my gear ratio and tire pressure and all that, but what about the performance difference between michelin snow tires and goodyear?

I think either way, I really want to start working on my own game for this purpose, and to simulate performance effects from different parts as best I can. There's so much simulation software used for engineering and design that can account for material stress limits and wear ratios so evidently the software and methodoligy is there to create, it's just a question of combining it all into a racing game that will also account for friction generated during turns or engine warping if you push your car to hard?

The main reason I want to find a game like this is so I can see how they did it, so by all means please recommend any game realism features you really liked from other racing/driving games!

car mechanic simulator is your best bet
To be honest, as a car enthousiast myself, car mechanic simulator is not what you search for.
But can’t give any other reccomendation.
Project Cars 2 and Assetto Corsa both have relatively detailed tuning.
I believe automation and beamng would work well.
