You literally answered your question in the first sentence.
They game was dying. The developers pulled out and stopped making content along side with the news the servers were going to be shut down. Obviously people stopped playing. No one wanted to invest time into a game that was going to die. That doesnt mean people dont want it back. Doesnt mean people wouldn't support it again if given the chance. Also doesnt mean the game was perfect. The parent company and balancing of the game is mostly why it failed. People fell in love with the overall concept. That's why people want it to be done again. Expand upon the original and make something better.
I personally remember loving the idea but finding the game itself quite lackluster.
I found Dead By Daylight to be a much better take on the 1v4 concept.
investing in a game that couldn't even bring a thousand players simultaneously. It's not profitable at all for any company
Turtle Rock are working on a zombie co-op game so personally looking forward to that here. The biggest problem this ever had was people not understanding how to play it. After it went F2P it wound up being full of kids only wanting to play one character and one class. The aesthetics and characters were gorgeous much like that other misunderstood failure Battleborn.
I wasn't surprised that the game tanked and failed hard. Didn't expect any less.
Evolve pretty much set the standard for horrendous microtransactions - £4.99 to turn your gun blue and £14.99 for a monster aesthetic on top of what was already a full price game with a season pass.
Even with the game dead, they released a second season pass which was absolutely astonishing. I think that was the first game ever to have two season passes and I've never seen so much junk in an online store.
Let's keep it dead - not only a shameful cash grab but an incredible dire game regardless. One of the worst I've ever played.
If people wanted to play it there'd be a playerbase and revenue to keep it going. Seems like already people decided and being one of the few people who really wants it just isn't enough. Some multiplayer games last forever and some come and go. That's life. And no matter how you imagine how huge it could be, could have been, or what the appeal is. Where was that enthusiasm when the game was still active? It's a pretty tough sell to make those claims after the game has already died... it's wishful thinking.
