Separate Install Locations for Client and Games
I want to install steam client on my D drive and the games on C. Is this possible b4 I try. Read the steam folder and the game folder has to be on same drive. C drive is ssd but only 256GB and steam install is over 106GB taking up half my drive space. Thanks for any help!:steamhappy:

thanks, can I move the installation then add the games location back to the C drive? Or should I just reinstall to D than make change to game folder?

You can use separate place for where you install your steam and your game library. Heck even you can have multiple game library. The way you do this is that go to steam, settings, download, STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS, there you set where you want to make the new library at (you cant delete default library which is where you install steam) and done. when you download a game make sure to use the correct library.

also if you already had installed game in lets say C and want to move em to D, you can do that by right click the game on steam, properties, local files, move install folder.

hope this help

Don't. You don't get anything but you're opening possibilities for issues. Don't do that unless you have something substantial to gain. I for example keep most of my games on the HDD for space reason and a few selected ones on my SSD for speed reason. But just keeping Steam & the games separated doesn't yield any advantages.

As a rule of thumb, you'd want to install your OS on an SDD — and i hope this is what you did.

We're not just poking at speed boot times but general performance.

That's your first prioritization and should take precedence over anything.

Now, with the space left on the SDD, you'd want to install some games.

The "left-overs" can go in the HDD where you probably have A LOT of space.

For obvious performance reasons, try to get your favorite games onto the SSD.

Of course the OS is installed to the C (SSD).

Thanks for the help, ran into the problem when trying to "move directory", that directory could not be written to and do not have permission to write to a read only disk errors. Steam support was no help telling me to contact hard drive manufacture to ask why and how to fix... lol Uninstalling did not help as it left over many steam directories in the registry, the reason it was giving the errors. Once I searched registry for steam entries and deleted all the directory references, re installed steam to D (HD) drive and the games to C (SSD). Everything went smoothly. Waiting on a 2T samsung 970 M.2 to upgrade tht small 256GB SSD :D
