Turn-Based RPG Recommendations, anyone?
Hey all,

TL;DR: turn-based, fantasy, preferably bows/characters with bows playable

I'm looking for a nice turn-based RPG to play, preferably medieval fantasy style and where there's at least 1 character with a bow that joins your party for a long time (simply because bows are my favorite weapons and I have very few games where this is actually a thing).

You can also just suggest your favorite turn-based RPG, but do note futuristic is in general not really my thing. Sometimes it depends, but usually that would get a pass.

Thanks a lot!

I'd start with these:

Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 Enchanced Edition
Icewind Dale: Enchanced Edition
Pillars of Eternity 1 & 2

If you don't mind JRPG's

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel I & II sort of fit your criteria.
+Turn based
+Fantasy (come steampunk-like elements too)
+A main character uses a weapon which resembles a bow.
-There are considerable periods of time where said character will not be in your party.

Dragon Age Origins, however:
- Game isn't turn based (although you can pause and micro-manage party members during battle)
+Fantasy
+Main character can be built to be an archer, with other characters too (other roles can use bows and crossbows as secondary weapons)

"Pathfinder: Kingmaker" , best RPG i played in the last few years.

And while the game combat is not turn based by nature ( real time with pause) there is a
mod on Nexus that converts the whole battle system into a turn based mode.
I played the game from start to finish with that mod ( dont even know how the original combat was) and it worked flawlessly.

As for a bow character, you can either play as a Ranger class yourself or wait till a certain character who is a ranger can join your party.
Which is still fairly early in the game.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

Hmm @Jester, I actually already have Trails of Cold Steel but never tried it out. It slipped my mind after a while. Shame on me.

@FangElon, should I play 1 before 2?

Not necessarily. Both are almost completely independent (except for a few references) and while they are both good or even great games, DoS 2 is the better one.

The Spiderweg games might be right up your alley, too. The one on sale right now is independent from all others and one of the most interesting ones.

no!
classless system is never class based system!
Classless system is obviously a system where you don't have any class, therefore, any character start to behave the same.
class isn't a role in battle, nor unique combination of skills, but class is more like a feature of different and unique abilities and skills, both in and out of combat, it's not combinations of different but same skills.

Whilst these are great - they're not turn based. They're pausable, but not turn based ...

Arcanum is a turn based RPG with magic and bows and swords but it's a steampunk world not medieval fantasy one.

It's on the same engine as Baldur's gate so it's kinda partially turn-based. You can pause the action at any time to give instructions. and then watch things play out.
