What makes people add a game to Wishlist but not buy it?
Do people wait for the right price? Even when the game is already on sale, they might wait for a lower price?
Maybe they wait for more reviews or any review?
Maybe they want to see the developer is updating the game?

So what makes people add a game to a wishlist but not buy it?

Pure lack of money, but it is there maybe someday...And maybe someone is nice and buy it for me? That also is good. I gained some cupons by having my wishes listed and that helped too.

[curiosity and speculation] You´ve seen someone´s wishlist, and now you wonder about it.
That is what I make of this thread.

Sometimes occurrences happen for no apparent reason at all, if you can believe that. It's futile to speculate on this. Maybe their dog or cat made them to do that.

Maybe it´s because someone thought it was a fun idea to show you what those people wish for. Because if you know what someone wishes, you may be able to do something useful with that information. Such as: make a purchase at the same time, so you can play together from the beginning of a game or it´s story, or you can prepare, or save money or time, in case the event that happens.

That's one possible explanation for it.

Most games stay on my wishlist because of price as well. I am not gonna pay 30 bucks even on sale for a 6 year old game.

Ill get a burnt copy to try if I like it Ill buy it on Steam. I like all my games in one place. But I do wait for the sales.

steam had requirements for some of their events for us to add games to wishlist.
Gness Erquint 2019 年 12 月 1 日 下午 12:58
Seeing how some of us here have 500+ or even 1000+ games in our libraries, we probably aren't on the same wavelength with OP while they have only gotten 68 games in 11+ years on Steam.
I think their underlying misunderstanding would be better summed up by asking:
"Why do you guys make a pasttime/sport out of buying games?"

I think that at some point, there started to be a disconnect between when time of buying a game and the time of playing it. This can happen for a few reasons:
* want a game, but have no money for it (either on yourself or in your parents' budget)
* buy a game, but currently playing other games; will get to it later (i.e. backlog)
* buy a game, but currently non-gaming activities are occupying one's time (e.g. school or work)

Whichever way it was, people gradually realized that people could keep a list of games they wanted, and when they had the budget -- or, alternatively, when the game came within their budget -- they could pick up the game, then have it available waiting for them when the time was right to actually go play them.

Once people started doing this, and realized that games cost different amounts of money at different times, the next logical step was to "game" this to try to pick up the games at the lowest cost possible, or whatever amount a person would be willing to pay for a given game.

we wait for a sale price, also the wishlist is the best way to keep track of games you are interested in.
Wickid_Splat 2019 年 12 月 1 日 下午 3:03
Also it reminds me to check back on a game after its been out for a while. Sometimes ill add it to the wishlist when its new and i think i might like it after reading initial reviews. But then while waiting for the sale i find out the reviews turned south.

Aye, same goes for Early Access games that look interesting. Add it to the wishlist and through that keep occassional tabs on it.

Sometimes I'll add to the wishlist just because they are some games I'm interested in but haven't gotten around to playing yet. Kind of like a Watchlist on IMDb. I even have some free games in my wishlist.

I have my wishlist as a pseudo i'm interested filter, anything not on it is ignored.
It makes sales and stuff easier when everything is either 'i'm interested' or 'i don't care' and anything that is neither is brand new, let's check it out.
It stops me from looking at the same game 10+ times thinking its great and wait for a sale.

as for what it takes for me to buy... a 75% off sale that puts the game under 20$ or a 50% off sale that puts a game under 10, i'm willing to wait years for games I want to play because I couldn't care less about online.

Wow i am the exact opposite, i could not care less about the offline version. I have many games that i have never played the offline version, maybe i should, maybe there might be some enjoyment there. At least there would be better graphics and no net worry about.

Might be a idea for a new topic, offline vrs online players... ill start it...

My main problem is when I get good at a game, and I mean actually good, I'm near unbeatable locally, but online, even with people who are doing worse, I feel the lag and I'm at best fighting the lag to be better. some games like overwatch where if you see it on your screen and you shoot someone in the head, regardless of where they are they get shot in the head feel good, but also bad because I know there is heavy compensation going on, I can never really get into them because of that, so i'm largely going pve at this point, and at that point I may as well play on my own for extra challenge.

the few games I get where they are 'timely' like battlefield 4, i'm point blank, I shoot center mass with a shotgun, get 3 shots and they don't die, but I take 1 pistol round and i'm down, I look at the scoreboard and they are obviously dying so they aren't cheating... and this was when I was relatively in practice for battlefield games due to coming off bad company 2 shortly before where I ranked within the top 3 every match even against people who were obviously aimbotting or invulnerability.

something changed in the way online works in those games and it changed for the worse, and I can never figure out if its lag on my end, its the server on their end, or if its my computer, any way I look at it, when it feels like crap to play online, I just stop.

@eqalidan

I know exactly what you mean and i agree something changed and not for the better. When i first started playing BF3 i was at the time playing alot of CSGO (even making maps) and DOD Source. I was amazed and how real BF3 was, almost frighting real, but i loved it. Even with its flaws i still think its is the best of the series. Why they changed it after BF4 i dont know.

But yes i agree there is some very serious lag in online games today especially with any of the new releases and this is all FPS not just BF. Many times in BF1 i was standing right behind someone and with a shotgun i shot them in the head, they turned around and 1 shot killed me, its crazy.

I am told that the single player version of BF is pretty darn good but i dont know because i have never played it. I assume other titles have the same experience in single play mode.

I was excited when the game servers started using balancers to balance out the pings to make it alittle more even, but even that does no good when someone is sitting 5 miles from the server and the other person is sitting 1000 miles away. Balancers can only achieve so much blance.

So i dont know what the answer is to that question of how to make it evenly rewarding. I assume there is still some technology that someone is working on that is still in its infancy that will solve that issue. We may not see it in our lifetimes but one day it will be cracked.

I may try one of the BF single players, who knows i might enjoy it... :)
