Half-Life 3: the new Duke Nukem Forever?

More so to the devs at Valve than anyone else, I would like to point out that if you are still working on the Half-Life series and you aren't planning on delivering a 3rd installment game that can overshadow the others that have come before it and justify the wait that has been forced on the community, you are headed for the same fate as Duke Nukem Forever. A highly anticipated, suspenfully overhyped, and hope-shattering disappointment is not what old fans of one of your trademark titles want to see.
Perhaps I speak for myself, but as someone who has slowly lost interest in mainstream gaming due to the piss-poor mindset of pretty graphics and lack of quality control (i.e. immersive story, interesting and well-tested mechanics, lack of fillers and time wasters, etc) I would rather see the series end at episode 2.
If you care at all about your development and still have a passion for what you do, please don't give us a half-assed product. Be considerate enough to let the community know that your devs simply don't want to or can't deliver what everyone hoped for. Telling people that will bring you more respect as a company and as individuals, because we're all human, after all, and most people should be understanding if your teams have reached their limitations and recognize that.
I've played the series since the first game came out, wide-eyed and captivated by everything Half-Life had to offer, stopped playing and forgot all about the series until the Orange Box was released, and relived all those emotions again at the chance to play Half-Life 2 and it's two episodes. Don't take that experience away from new gamers or ruin the memory of the series for us old timers. Otherwise, thank you for any hard work you and your teams put towards a story most gamers know and love. Best of luck with your endeavors in 2019!

The difference is, DNF has at least been in development. Sure, it got engine-switched, went from one team to another, a rocky ride overall, but it has been in development. HL³ isn't.

Duke Nukem Forever was always in development and changing hands as ReBoot says above but as it stands Half Life 3 hasn't even been commissioned. Looking at Valve's in-house developers, I'm not actually sure who would even produce it based off the people who have left the company over the years.

They did, however, officially announce HL2 episode 3, and they never officially confirmed it's canceled

At least Valve doesn't push preorders and DLC for games that aren't even half-finished or never finished at all. (looking at you Star Citizen, and countless others)

Why should valve develope it they make enough money with steam + this braindead people which spend 500$ or more just for steam lvl up or which spend 50$ for 1 skin etc.
There is rly no reason for valve..just look the cash grab card game from valve.

Lets face it, Valve is the new EA. Any HL product will likely be bogged down with microtransations, marketables, DLC's out the butt, lootboxes, etc

Gabe has become used to making big money that any 3 that release wil likely destroy any nostalgia we had for the series

That remains to be seen. DNF eventually got released, and I thought it was hell of fun. Aside from half the world burning it at the stake for being crude.
At least, on PC it was okay. (in my opinion at least.)

Or maybe I just have terrible standards, idk. But I thought it really didn't deserved all the ♥♥♥♥ it got thrown at it.

Anyway, at least they're still on track with it's spin-off, and not creating soft ass card games instead of releasing Ep.3.
