Friend got mistakenly reported, got banned, and "admin" asked for 100 dollars in gift card?

So my friend messaged me on Discord today, and told me that there was a scammer with his same exact username, and his friend went to report the scammer, but accidently reported my friend. So instead of the scammer getting banned, my friend got banned.

Now that enough is strange, but what is even weirder is how my friend messaged a steam "admin" on discord to get his account reinstated. This steam "admin" told him, in broken and awful english no less, to buy a 100 dollar steam wallet gift card to get his account unbanned. They said that they would refund him after his account got unbanned, but I really do question the entire thing. Why would an "admin" want him to buy a 100 dollar steam wallet gift card, and to refund that gift card no less.

However, my friend is banned, so I'm not sure what is going on. There is no direct way to contact steam support. I want to help my friend, but I don't know how to do it. Please help

Well, first thing, you should see a doctor about that stroke you appear to be having.

Second, I assume your friend has email? Email him a link to this thread.

I just had a similar thing happen to me, everything, the broken english, the gift card, the "accidental" report, he even tried too say he would delete my account if I didnt send him a gift card. I was lucky enough to notice that he changed the password while it was under my email so I got the new password, and because the username was the same, I managed to save my account because of his stupidity. If someone who appears to be an admin asks you to logout of your steam account, don't do it. it was a terrible experience and really stressful, so be careful

Block those messages instantly and report it to the discord server owner. Theres no reason why theyd ever contact you over there when they supposedly are in charge of Steam.
