Why isn't the Orange Box on New Gen Consoles?
I'm mostly speaking in favor of the Switch, because that would just the amazing, but I'm genuinely surprised The Orange Box hasn't recieved some sort of remake or enhancement for newer hardware. Yeah, I know Valve can live off Steam forever, and people would likely start complaining about Half Life 3 again, but this would undeniably make a ridiculous amount of money, and even make Valve relevant again.

Seriously, they've gone dark on everything since 2013, when buz about a Valve Console and their VR work began. Nobody NEEDS to do this, yeah, but they've absolutely got the money to outsource to a 3rd party dev. It's something they've done before, and look how great CS:GO is because of it.

Oh yeah, I remember how the last console ports got abandoned almost instantly, but two things, that was only an issue for TF2 and kind of Left for Dead, and those ports actually ran really well, which is all I care about honestly, plus, TF2 and LFD are so complete and full of content now, I can live with never getting updates, except for small stuff like bugs fixes.

Not only that, but they could sweeten the deal by adding a few more games like CS:GO, and even some of Steam's best sellers if possible.
Okay, thanks for reading, cheers mate.

Because Valve don't have any need or desire to jump on the bandwagon of re-releasing a game with a new paintjob for every console generation to rake in a few quick bucks.

You do realize the orange box was a collection of individual games, right?

Yeah, they don't need to, Steam is enough money for anyone forever, but the Orange Box is just awesome and should be accessible for everyone. Not to mention, like i said earlier, TF2 and LFD could actually use the enhancements.

Left 4 Dead wasn't in the Orange box and both it and the entirety of the Orange box are working on the xbox one through backwards compatibility.

Only reason it isn't available on PS4 is Sony don't want to allow people to play older games unless they pay again to rebuy them.

As for the switch it's not worth putting in all the effort there when the market for sales isn't big enough as there are newer better versions of those types of games already there.

Because they would have to add multiplayer support again for those games.

Time + Money on every new console is not really worth it.
That depends on whether or not the game would make it's money back, which it most certainly would for obvious reasons.

Valve did not even do the port of the Orange Box to consoles. That was the publisher, EA.
So far Valve themselves have released only two games on consoles. Portal 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

I have to disagree with that point about the Switch. Games on that console tend to sell better than on other platforms, and I don't just mean Indie Games.
It's not gonna last as long as the PC version, but if it'll turna profit then where's the harm in that?

Which is why I mentioned they could easily outsource another company to do the port. EA though, they'd be better off avoiding them now.

No, my point was the orange box is as updated as it can be. tf2 was on it and still gets updates. l4d2 is active, get some rare fixes. There is portal, not sure what else other than vr (which i think is now preset) that could make the game better. there is of course hl2, which isn't going a remake from valve.
These games are for KB+M.
