Non friends sending chat messages?

I just got two messages from two different steam accounts within 10 minutes of each other yet they aren't on my friend's list? How is that possible or is there a new exploit going around. They were phishing bots.

It's likely through group chats that you've been in.

They're able to send you messages from there.

Also, what you alluded to is not exactly an exploit...

I checked and I'm not into any group chats, I even tested entering the group chats and I saw there was an option to message people in those chats however I'm not in any public group chats so how is that possible?

got this also today , a stranger sends me a chat message : hey can you help me please?
never was in group chats , just member in some groups.

But Steam sends also a warning message (...not on your friendlist) within the scam chat attempt

I have the same issue and I have recieved around 15 spam messages, this is getting pretty annyoting and I hope Valve takes action against this. At least let us disable messages from people that aren't friends with us.

it happened to me someone sent me a scam message but im on mobile so i couldnt read the full message but i saw the notification and part of the message

Yes, just got one myself. He sent a code that he claimed would get me a good skin. I blocked him.

I cannot see the scam mesage there
I guess it takes over an hour to show up. This really scared me

It may take longer than a couple hours to show up. But they will. It stores up to 2 weeks there.

I have had several attempted chat messages though they disappear instantly the moment i open up my chat. steam quickly tells me warning blah blah etc then does not give me the option of reading the message it instantly auto deletes after the brief notification by steam.

I am not sure what is going on there.
