Active multiplayer RTS games

Hey everyone. I'm looking for RTS games which have an active multiplayer community or a very challenging & varying AI.

Looking for micro-RTS if possible. I know and like company of heroes 2 but for I just can't seem to find my balance in current patch. I hoped last year that dow3 would be the big new rts game, but that didn't go as well as I'd hoped...

I know about age of empires II. While it's a great game, It's mainly a macro-economic RTS instead of micro troop movement RTS. I personally prefer the latter.

Starcraft 2 it's not in Steam and it's free now, for me it's best multiplayer RTS, there's still macro but it's not as complex as AoE2.
