3,5 mb/s download enough for in-home streaming?
Hey!
First, i hope this is the right subforum for my question.

I pulled an ethernet-cable down one floor, throught that cable i get a download-speed of 3,5 mb/s.

Will this be enough for in-home-streaming?

Thank you!

Download speed is irrelevant because that's from the internet, you will be streaming locally so you could test to transfer some files from one PC to another using that cable if you want.
But if you have ethernet then it should be fast enough with no issues.

You can stream between to computers that are running Steam if you want to test?

I already tried it. I ran a game over my Raspberry pi (retropie).
I only had the possibility to play a retro-game (avgn adventures) and it worked quite well, i am curious how it will run with better graphics.

Only afterwards i tried a download and 3,5mb/s seemed pretty slow to me, on my pc (near the rooter with a short cable i get 20~30 mb/s.
The cable that goes to my raspberry is 25 meters long and we had trouble pulling it into the tube and used a lot of force.

Streaming from pi? or to the pi? That doesn't seem relevant..
I assume you are thinking of getting a Steam Link? That thing doesn't work like retropi at all.. You still play the games on your PC.

Download what? From where?

You don't have another computer to test this?

Yes, i want to use my Raspberry pi as a steam link. I use parsec, it works quite well.
I performed a download-speed-test with the Raspberry.
The gaming-pc stands near the router, there i have a speed of 25mb/s.
The Raspberry is downstairs and is connected to the router trough a cable of 25 meters length.

Is there any way to test the connection speed between the pc and the Raspberry?

So this has not very much to do with Steam at all? Steam can only Stream to another Steam thing and Steam doesn't run on a pi.
If you have this set up then what is left here? Can't parsec show you how much bandwidth it uses? That result will be more relevant than any other tests right?
This might be a better question for the parsec forums.

Not sure why you made this thread if it works..

Just act if was a steamlink ;).

I ask because i had no possibility yet to try a game with "good" graphics and i wondered if this kinda slow connection will be sufficent

"Good"? Why not try some xcom and see how it works? Or the free demo for Doom?

You still say your connection is slow but you are basing this on downloading stuff from the pi.
Internet connection isn't a factor, that program you use should have a thing that says what bandwidth it is using and if it doesn't then use the task manager to see what speed you send it in.

Ok, i'll try that!
Sorry, i am still a noob when it comes to networks ecc.
