Anyone know of a/any alternative(s) to Steam.
I am just curious what game manager do you use and how do you find it compares to steam. What is does worse then steam. Is it better in any way, etc.

i mostly use it for anime, but i also own forza motorsport 7. it's just windows 10 store for games and what not. you can get xbox games to play on pc there.... and high quality, source anime you can download to your hard drive :D

Oh, neato. Is the anime decently priced?
on sale, it's better than steam. shakugan no shana 3 seasons (72 episodes) $30 {originally $150} plus, it's submitted directly from funimation/sentai filmworks, so you can choose between dub or sub. ovas and movies are still a bit but on sale pretty good prices there too.

they literally have pretty much every series you could want on there... https://i.imgur.com/e1x42pS.png (pic of stuff i got atm) i was surprised to see their catalogue (just started buying off wstore so don't have that many right now, but the ones I do have are all titles i've been searching for for a long time for digital download)

I wonder if I could get this on one of their Windows Phones. Portable anime to go.
https://itch.io/ has some good stuff but because it's (basically) 100% indie I'm paranoid about some games having nightmare bugs or malware or something.

Speaking of indie games Yo Noid 2 is worth trying. https://dustinbragg.itch.io/yo-noid-was-ahead-of-its-time

EA's client and Ubisoft's client don't support any modding for any of their games. With GOG you're free to modify your files directly as you please.

Ahhh, well thats no fun. But what about the community hub I bet they have to user something like it.
Dude. why are you asking questions instead of going and looking. They're all free clients. try them out and see for yourself.

How in the world do you run this? Do I need a separate program that can play RAR. files???

I think you posted this in the wrong thread.

Has anyone got malware from this?

It was from the comments of that Yo Noid 2 game. And for the record I know of no cases where itch.io hosted a virus or any game with an awful problem. I just feel that the danger is there.

there's no alternative to steam. most of the games are exclusive to steam.

Oh Please.

OP There are currently 4 Alternatives

GOG - www.gog.com
Origin - www.origin.com
Uplay - https://uplay.ubi.com/
The Windows App STore. - No clue

Has anyone used the Windows App Store, or know what it is really?

I bought a couple games off Windows Store, Gears of War 4 and ReCore. Honestly, no complaints. The performance is really good (which is shocking, considering how botched Tomb Raider and Quantum Leap was) and...to be frank, it's a pretty decent service. A hell of a lot better than the nightmare that was GFWL. Other than that, the Windows Store is basically Apple's iTunes shop, where you can buy music, movies and even mobile games...which I can't tell you about since I never used these features. I pretty much just wanted to play Gears of War without paying a subscription :P.
As far as "game managers" go, by which I guess you mean how the Steam client handles downloads and other stuff, a few other stores have similar programs:
* Desura - Desura (client) <-- currently defunct, check back later
* GOG - GOG Galaxy
* itch.io - itch
* EA - Origin
* Ubisoft - UPlay
* Blizzard - Battle.net

I don't really use any of them other than GOG Galaxy and Steam though.

I personally would prefer to use none, but Galaxy conveniently fits into my way of handling install directories, and Steam...just has been here for a while, like it or not.

Galaxy is an optional component of GoG's system. You can download and run the games without ever touching their client.

I forgot to mention that, but you're right.
Try this alterative to Steam, PhotonV4 game manager, you can try it out then if you want you can buy a it for 10 British Pounds. Of course you will have to set it up for Steam.

I have not heard the term GFWL before, what is that?

What happened to Desura to make it defunct?

Wow, that is actually pretty cool, so do you just long in and download from your account?
GFWL stands for Games for Windows Live..

perhaps you haven't been gaming long enough to remember, but it was one of Microsofts earlier attempts at an online DRM solution.. was pretty crappy software though
