Can I use any picture for my "Artwork" to put into my profile?
The title pretty much says it all, but I'm interested in putting an NCR Ranger from the Fallout series ( New Vegas ) into my profile but I can only do it via "Artwork" and if I want to upload it I need to check out a box that says something along the lines of: "I can verify I made this artwork".

So, do I need to draw it by my own hand to for the artwork to be mine ( and I mean this as to put it into my profile, and not own the actual picture or concept itself), or I can just check the box and safely pass the verify without getting into any legal trouble?

Everything you do not make yourself can be reported or have a DMCA report filed on it and can be removed.

Don't want to sound cynical but... people can just take it and put it on a website, or share it with friends in private if you make something yourself, while you receive a DMCA report for anything you take.

It´s sort of a black vice, if you ask me. You must try really hard, you recieve nothing in return, and they will just steal it, yk.

So, if I make the ranger in let's say photoshop that counts as my artwork? Or it can be taken down just because of the concept?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but to my best knowledge:

Everything you upload automatically belongs to Valve. So you will not get any sort of legal issues yourself. But it may still be removed from Steam or changed by a Valve employee.

I think you can safely try something like that.
Besides, you made it in your program. So you made it. Right?
You may not have created it, but you still made it.

At least, that´s the way I see it.
Come to think of it. I´ve got something. Just a moment...

Here it is!

I can understand why this bothers you.

I think if you have paid money for it, you´re allowed to do it. Because then usually there is copyright on it. So you have the right to copy it. Right?
As long as you don´t take it from another person, you should be okay.

Valve games, not games sold on steam. As it says,

You´re right. So OP may not use it? Even though it´s still a reference to Valve. Because they sell the intellectual property on their Steam platform.

But why would Fallout be third party content, if I may ask?

Isn't that kind of the same analogy? Valve has it on Steam, and so they made it. At least, the Steam version. I don't see how Fallout would be 3rd party content when they sell FO: VEGAS on Steam.

Valve did not make FONV. They're only selling it. That's like saying Wal-Mart owns every single brand they sell.

Except Fallout isn't a brand.

Bethesda is. Scratch that, Fallout's technically a brand too.

But the OP has the rights. It even has the game.
