Remove the tasteless "hentai" games!

Its really sad that most of what I see is either meme games or "hentai" games. Please go back to having at least some content standards to minimize the amount of tasteless games and games that are explicit just to be explicit. There is no substance anymore. Honestly debating switching to Epic.

How do you search for games that it makes it "insanely hard" to find good games? I rarely see these hentai games on the storefront or in my discovery queue.

Users are more likely to see these games when they search for and click on these games. So ironically a lot of people who are looking for something to be outraged about and who click on these types of games will then be presented with these games more often on the Steam store. If you ignore them or filter them out, it pretty much ceases to be an issue.

yep these things started showing up for me also.

Every so often I will do a guided tour of 'reccommeneded games for you' and suddenly they have all these half baked 'rpg / dating sim ' things popping up left right and center.
I am pretty sure this stuff was never here before. But I cannot verify that because i dont search for these things ever in any medium.

I am all for people being able to persue their lifestyles but it sucks when its shoved into my face in an obvious hypernormalization effort.
since steam is proud to sell smut they should categorically contain the smut into its own cubby hole.
seriously though,
I have seen no less than 2 VR games on the front page about molesting japanese adolescent girls. Guess they want that pedophile dollar really bad.
But also the message is clear they are attempting to broadcast 'this is normal'

its not about whether we like it or not, its a matter of annoyance. because these games keep popping in recommended and trending for no apparent reason. filter dont do jack sh*t because every month a new ones will popping out in trending.

this also hurt another indie developers that maybe have better games to sell but they get overwhelmed by this

I would have to uncheck most of the categories I am interested in. 'adult' ? yes I prefer adult language themes scenarios and characters which are not suitable for minors.

I don't use the Discovery queue so I really have no idea what it would recommend to me, BUT I'm pretty sure you're giving the Steam algorithm way more credit than it deserves.

These recommendations mostly work with tags. I have played games with tags like "female protagonish", "visual novel" (even though I've never played one, but some games use VN-style cutscenes to massively slash costs), "sexual content", "nudity" (both of these are likely to appear on games with fanservice) etc.

There's really no big jump from the tags of games I've played to the tags of games on a Hentai-VN. Even more so as the algorithms want to find OTHER games, so they don't aim for a 100% match in tags.

Don't get me wrong, though: I have not set any filters, and (probably) never will. I don't trust these algorithms, and prefer to just filter stuff myself.

I'm not giving the algorithm any particular amount of credit, but I am certain there is SOME form of algorithm that determines what's on one's discovery queue. I've seen people complain about hentai games and I've yet to run into any. I don't have the biggest steam library, but enough where i should've ran into at least one of the offending games.

Every single time a thread like this pops up, this has to be explained again and again.
So for the millionth time, one has to opt-in to see this kind of adult content in the store.

This means you willingly went into your account preferences, checked the "adult content" boxes, and are now complaining about seeing hentai in the store.

Just go back to your account preferences and un-check those boxes.

Well yes kinda. Because at the time it was a bit surprising and shocking in a way that was obviously edgey and inappropriate. Now suddenly 3 years later all this garbage is raining on steam. It honestly blows my mind they would allow a child molestation VR game front and center on the store page. I am trying to add to the discussion in attempt to point out that this violates my personal taste and simply clicking to hide adult themes from the store page wouldn't be sufficient. I'm not saying I have the answer. I'm not taking an sjw/anti-sjw stance. I'm just saying that since this form of entertainment is apparently successful amd selling somehow it deserves its own very unique 'henrai/smut/porn/sexuality focused' or whatever category and appropriate label so one can elect to shove the whole category aside without sacrificing viewing games one would be interested in with overlapping features

Because the 2 Japanese dating games i own in VR are super harmless and dont even have kissing and the most risk thing is hand holding.

The second one here is literally just about first falling in love during a summer vacation and is super sappy and sweet. Nothing inappropriate at all.

Also i know that there are pornographic VR games, even on Steam.

Well yeah, VR Kanojo is actually a porn game. At least in its original Japanese release.
They removed the pornographic bits from the version released on Steam so there really is not much to see there.
The characters are also in University so 18+. ( still school uniforms in Japan for that at some universities)
Even though IT IS a porn game the characters are not underage and dont look underage.
They just look like typical 3D renditions of Anime characters.

Anyway, like already said, the Steam version has no sexual content anyway.
