Steam Award Results
So you're telling me that neither Goat Simulator nor Saints Row IV won the anti-realism award? But a freaking go-cart soccer game did?

And that Tomb Raider won over Hellblade for Vitruvius, and FFS the ONE GAME in the NO COMBAT category that won was the ONE GAME that DOES have combat?!

Steam needs to look at the top voted games for a category and just outright TRASH any games that don't actually fit the category, because Steam users wouldn't pay attention to a category's description even if that description actually made sense.

"We're talking about the FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS type of game!" WTF DOES THAT MEAN?! That's a movie!!! Which part am I supposed to think is the most high - the gamers, controls, visuals, or developers?! WHAT DO YOU ACTUALLY WANT?!

I don't remeber seeing an "anti-realism" and "no-combat" category. And all fo the categories are so vague and useless, that pretty much every game fits any category, it'd be pretty hard to ban games from categories that no one can make sense of.
Easy. Popularity wins. Since people get rewarded for there vote (Trading Cards) a lot more people vote. And then they vote that they know the most or like the most, not that suits the category the most (because they dont care but for the Trading Cards). And there are millions of people like that.

So, the Steam Awards are just Popularity Awards. That's why something like PUBG and CS: Go wins, because of the massive playerbases.
Suspension of Disbelief

Let’s be honest: games can have some pretty ridiculous elements in them… from the stories that drive the action, to the items required to conquer obstacles, to even the protagonists themselves. This award is for the game that has a key component, which when described out of context, seems totally insane, but while playing the game doesn’t even make you bat an eye, because in the moment it makes total sense."

In all honesty, none of the games fit the description. But they did all fit the title - Suspension of Disbelief. Which is for when something is unbelievable, but you fail to care. Therefore, it has to be unrealistic, yet being unrealistic is what makes it good.

In that, there was Saints Row IV and Goat Simulator, perfectly insane, ridiculous, unrealistic games. But what won was vehicle pong.

The World Is Grim Enough Let's Just All Get Along

Games delight and entertain us, giving us much needed breaks from the sorrows and low points of our lives… and let’s be honest, for a lot of people it’s been a rough 2017. That is why the SASC has chosen to celebrate a game that doesn’t involve combat or conflict."

This was probably the least difficult category to understand. It was the pacifist category. The never-attack-anything category. The no-villain-kidnaps-your-mom-and-makes-you-fight-them-with-animal-slaves category.

Yet all of the idiots that never read decided to vote for the one game out of five that did have fighting, did have combat... Hell, even outside of combat it had conflict, because you had to deal with the elements and difficult relationship choices that could go completely upside down and negatively impact the game forever.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Cuphead, which somehow won over Transistor, also won the category it actually deserved. But that's two categories. Steam still has not addressed this issue with the voting seasons.

Valve is too lazy.

I mean, they don't want to use human labor. And despite this being on of their biggest marketing campaighns for Steam, Valve doesn't seem to care.

I would love it if the guy who made Stardew Valley sent out a PSA saying he refuses the reward because his game has combat.

Most people would think that's ridiculous, but he actually pays attention to Steam and his customers, so there might be a chance. Would also be a real slap in the face to Valve. lol
I found that some of the winners people chose were stupid too. But who cares? Seriously.

vehicle pong is pretty unrealistic tbh
People are idiots. They don't care about the category, they just vote for their favorite game regardless of the category. GTA5 won the "Whoa dude" award last year even though there's no twist or anything.

Most people wanted cards anyway. And on top of that you had the whole steam library to choose from. So why bother rage at "wrong" game won the category when games from 2000 could win 2017 awards?
Messaggio originale di Rezilia:
And that Tomb Raider won over Hellblade for Vitruvius,

I voted for Tomb Raider because its the only one of the options that I had actaully played.

and of course Lara Croft is going win the award for "celebration of the ideal form" lol
The Steam Awards are mostly trash. They are used as advertising slots for immensely popular games that don't need anymore advertising. The categories are meaningless. Steam itself just randomly pit unrelated games against each other. Most people vote to get the cards, and go with whatever game they've either liked, played, or heard about that has a good image in their minds.

Also, I'm pretty sure Steam deliberate self-pick some of the games, where they might not have been the actual game voted for in the preliminary round.

Seriously, they shouldn't even bother with any award categories. It should be a flat-out "Hey, guys! Let's see which game has the most people voting for it, and have them ranked out in a leader-board-esque style!"

Award categories have to mean something. Where a game is actually good and fits the proposition. Where they genuinely outrank others in terms of quality. And not just because there are a huge bunch of people playing it.

I wouldn't call Witcher 1 as immensely popular
Steam Awards are scams, just like with most award shows in general. Even the ones with popularity votes.

I tried giving the Steam Awards a chance, though, and voted for at least 2 or 3 categories. Never again.
Messaggio originale di Melithea:
I expect people to vote for choices that are objectively wrong, but I'm seriously wondering why this wasn't limited to 2017 games. What's the point of that?

Cause clearly they want to do something different. If they wanted to be like everyone else, they would have picked the normal "Best RPG" "Best FPS",ect.

Can you play that in real? With driving on wall, high jumpings and so on?

but that is not really the main part of this game. The Main Part is relaxing and farming.
