2. You gain XP by spending money and buiying stuff
3. Check your inventory
Everything you recieve from Steam is in your Inventory
Getting cards from your games is a chore.. sometimes they drop at a decent rate, other times you wont get any..
https://steamcommunity.com/tradingcards/faq/
FYI you get half (or half rounded up) of a set for playing a game with cards. You'll need to buy/ or trade for the other half, or wait for booster packs to drop (3 cards per booster).
Every time you craft a badge you get 100 XP.
Every time you buy a new game, or register a new game to your account using a Steam key, you get a certain amount of XP depending on how many games you already had before.
You earn cards by playing games that has Steam Trading Cards label to them and it drops half rounded up of the cards. It may be foil and/or duplicate.
Once you've completed the card drop, you are then qualified for booster pack for the game. You earn booster pack (contains 3 random cards) when someone crafted a badge.
Your booster pack drop rate increases as your level increase by 10 levels.
You can earn badges (exp and eventually level) by performing some tasks, rarely, organized by Steam such as performing community tasks, being in Steam long enough (every year Steam awards you a badge), sale events and etc.
However, these events only earns you very little experience. You can check my profile as I do have most of the badges earned apart from crafting them from cards.
Every 10 level, you can also gain a slot in your profile to display a new showcase (select from a set).
You can check your inventory for cards or badges to see which you have earned/qualify to earn/in progress.
These can be accessed via Steam Client > Your Username (mouse over) > Badges/Inventory
If you are thinking about earning from cards, I would advice you otherwise. The time and effort spent is no worth it. Steam Trading Cards are not meant for this purpose in the first place.
If you are thinking about spending time and money to invest on levels, like me, someday you will look back and get dissapointed. Just my personal opinion.
