How to open Sims 4 on steam
Is anyone able to open Sims 4 on Steam WITHOUT oppening origin? I woul like to stream it with the steam link (i'll have one in a few days) but i can't get to open Sims 4 without oppening Origin.. (Yes I added the game at the non steam games library, and yes, I've already done this:
"-Choose the Origin game from the list, then select “Add Selected Programs“.
-From the computer where the Origin game is installed, open Origin.
-Go to the “Origin” menu, and select “Application Settings“.
-Select “Origin In Game” in the left pane.
-Uncheck the “Enable Origin in Game” check box.
-Select “Advanced” in the left pane.
-Check the “Automatically exit Origin after closing a game” option, then close Origin.
-From the client computer, launch Steam. "

Anyways when I start sims 4 on steam, Origin opens.

Sims 4 is a Origin Game, it requires Origin to play.

yeah, I know, but I've read that actually you can play on steam some origin games (doing all the things I posted), but in this case, it doesn't work

It still requires Origin.

Adding a non-Steam Game to your Steam Library is more or less just a shortcut.

:Teddy_talk: Yep. I asked myself a similar question sometime ago, "How do I Windows 'End-Task' the Origin Client, without ending the Origin game so I can broadcast that game through the Steam Client for my buds?"

To stream non-Steam games, such as games launched via Origin, click to Add a Game -> Add a Non-Steam Game. Select your game from the list provided, or if not listed, click Browse and find the game's exe file and add it to the list. Click checkbox next to game in list, click Add Selected Programs.

Once you've added the non-Steam game, find it in your game library (using classic Steam interface), right-click, click on Properties.

Assuming your Target field currently looks something like:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Need for Speed(TM) Rivals\NFS14.exe"

Then you're going to update your Target field to add the Origin exe, like so:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Need for Speed(TM) Rivals\NFS14.exe" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin\Origin.exe"

Then click OK to save the change.

You'll also want to update your Origin Settings.
In Origin: Settings -> General, uncheck "Automatically launch Origin when I log on to Windows".
Also: Settings -> Advanced -> Automatic Exit -> check "Automatically exit Origin after closing a game"
Not sure if this is necessary, but I also disable Origin In Game: Settings -> Origin In Game -> uncheck "Enable Origin In Game"

At this point, you should be able to stream Origin games via Steam.

I've tested variations on this approach to allow me to stream Watch Dogs (purchased via UPlay), but no luck so far. I'm able to launch Watch Dogs from Steam using the approach above (replacing Origin exe with Uplay exe). Nvidia Geforce Experience allows me to stream it via GameStream though (Nvidia Shield). So it's only Steam-specific streaming that is failing for me currently.

Thanks for the info! I have another problem, i'm on Mac, soc my games won't appear with exe file..

HowTo: Launch Origin games under Steam, showing each as Non Steam game «Origin title»

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How Origin seems to work
It seems Origin always has to run the game from its own GUI (Origin.exe), so when you run for example Crysis3.exe directly it will send a signal to Origin.exe to launch Crysis3.exe before it exits. That way the parent process of an Origin game is always run under Origin.exe. I believe this has something to do with the overlay system of Origin. It needs to be run below Origin to be able to show the overlay or have video streaming capabilities.
So this is what seems to be happening:
1. Run Crysis3.exe
2. Crysis3.exe sends a signal to Origin.exe
3. Crysis3.exe exits
4. Origin.exe starts Crysis3.exe

Web browser launched games like Battlefield and Medal of Honor: Warfighter works almost in the same way:

1. Run bf3.exe
2. Bf3.exe launches the web browser URL to the web portal for playing. (battlelog.com)
3. Bf3.exe exits
4. You press “Join” on a server.
5. The plugin installed in the web browser launches bf3.exe with a set of parameters.
6. Bf3.exe sends a signal to Origin.exe
7. Bf3.exe exits
8. Origin.exe starts bf3.exe

How to let us run it as Non Steam games

Setup briefly:
• Create a steam shortcut to the game exe fil. (steam://rungameid/somelongid)
• Create a new “proxy” exe file.
• Rename the original to something else
• Configure settings for the “proxy” exe. (steam url and the renamed original exe file)

And how the run logic works:
1. Run Crysis3.exe (the proxy)
2. This proxy then runs the steam url and exits.
3. Steam launches Crysis3.exe (the proxy again) and shows you as playing “Non Steam game Crysis 3”.
4. Crysis3.exe renames itself to something else and renames the original exe to Crysis3.exe
5. The proxy (old crysis3.exe) runs the original Crysis3.exe
6. Crysis3.exe sends a signal to Origin.exe
7. Crysis3.exe exits
8. Origin.exe starts Crysis3.exe
9. The proxy renames the original Crysis3.exe to something else and renames itself to Crysis3.exe again.
10. The proxy (still running and showing you as playing the game) sits and waits for Crysis3.exe that Origin launched to exit.

That’s the way to get steam to show you as playing Crysis3.exe. The same operation can be done the same way for bf3.exe. Have not tested it on other Origin games but will assume it works there as well.
This way it will differentiate between you playing Crysis, Battlefield 3 or any other Origin games instead of the “bad” way of just launching Origin from steam and calling it “Battlefield 3”.

If you are curious on how to see which process is run below another process there is an alternative task manager named ProcExp.exe that you can download from here: http://live.sysinternals.com/

The setup in detail for Battlefield 3.
1. If you don’t have .Net 4.0 Installed already, do so. (should be part of Windows 8 OS). (Microsoft .NET Framework 4)

2. Add bf3.exe to steam through Games->Add a Non-Steam game to my Library in steam and give it a nice name like “Battlefield 3”.
3. Make sure to create a desktop shortcut for it
4. Right click the desktop shortcut, select Properties and write down the URL to the game. Should look like this: steam://rungameid/1330671228234242342. Make sure the shortcut works.

5. Download the exe+config (zip). (Or get the source and compile it yourself)
6. Unpack the 2 files: SteamOriginLauncher2.exe and SteamOriginLauncher2.exe.config
7. Copy these 2 files to the battlefield 3 folder with the bf3.exe in it.
8. Rename bf3.exe to bf3_original.exe.
9. Rename SteamOriginLauncher2.exe to bf3.exe
10. Rename SteamOriginLauncher2.exe.config to bf3.exe.config
11. Open bf3.exe.config in notepad and edit the properties filling in the name of the original bf3.exe and the steam URL:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<configuration>
<appSettings>
<add key="steamUrl" value="steam://rungameid/1330671228234242342"/>
<add key="originalExe" value="bf3_original.exe" />
<add key="alternativeExe" value=" " />
</appSettings>
</configuration>12. Save the changes.
13. You are done. The exe should run its magic when you join a server from Battlelog, showing you as running Battlefield 3.
I have tested this on Battlefield 3, Crysis 3 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter. It works on all, but warfighter has signed something in windows so you might get a popup saying “Windows protected your PC”. If so, just click “More” and “Run anyway”. Also for MoHW behaves a little bit different. It launches the game with Launcher.exe which in turn runs MOHW.exe. So I have a setting for that.

My setting for MOHW is

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<configuration>
<appSettings>
<add key="steamUrl" value="steam://rungameid/143424234242676577"/>
<add key="originalExe" value="launcher_original.exe" />
<add key="alternativeExe" value="mohw.exe" />
</appSettings>
</configuration>Using the alternativeExe setting that says to wait for mohw.exe before closing down “the steam game”.

My setting for Crysis 3:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<configuration>
<appSettings>
<add key="steamUrl" value="steam://rungameid/15503679177961242554"/>
<add key="originalExe" value="crysis3_orig.exe" />
<add key="alternativeExe" value="" />
</appSettings>
</configuration>
So this program should work on those 2 kind of Origin ways of starting the games.
