Family Library Sharing
Library sharing is useless. When I first signed up for it, it allowed multiple people in my house to play different games at the same time. Which is amazing when you have more than one gamer under your roof, who enjoy different styles of games.
Not sure when the recent changes came about, but it has now made family sharing completely pointless. In order for either of us to play any games, it either has to be on our own accounts separately, or we have to log in for each other to play games on each others libraries, or one person can't play the game theyd like to because the other is using their account for another game.
What's the point of having family sharing, if you can't share with your family?

Just seems like I'm not being told that I can't play on my Xbox, because my brother is playing on his, when we both have our own set up. Sure can't play the same games at the same time. But there should be no reason we can't swap and play each others games, or borrow a game they arent using to play.

I doubt that. Very much.

As long as it wasn't that specific game that was in use, it would allow either user to play a game from the others library. And when the owner of that game wished to play it, it displayed a message for the other that they were being kicked off of that game, essentially. However, it still allowed the borrower to play a differnt game from the owners library

It's literally never worked like that.

Family Sharing has been the same day one as it is now.

Can two users share a library and both play at the same time?
No, a shared library may only be played by one user at a time including the owner and even if they want to play different games

OP must be confusing steam with another platform. Family share never worked the way he remembers.

EDIT: If it was a game playable offline, you could (rather awkwardly) share same account.

the xbox comparing is not a good one, more like being angry not being able to use the same xbox account alongside with all your friends at the same time.

The whole premise behind Family Sharing just
DOES
NOT
WORK.
There is NO point in sharing your steam library with someone else in your household when only ONE account can play a game at a time.
You MAY AS WELL give them access to your damn account because it works the same way.

Right now you can only get around it by starting in offline mode in your main account. Which is a mild inconvenience sure, but an annoying one at best.

It works as intended, so don't expect Valve to change it anytime soon.

not sure how the promise doesnt work when the system was explicitly designed this way

if you dont like then why dont you ask devs as to why essentially allowing people to make an all out sharing system with barely any limits where only one person has to buy a copy is not already a mindboogling succes, after all people also claimed that used copies dont hurt sales.

Well sure... aside from the fact that it's a violation of the Subscriber Agreement that you agreed to...
