It's technically not even gambling. officially. All items in these cases are equal in value to the key used to open the case. So whether or not you get what byou want is irrelevant. You get something of equal value to what you spent. At least. officially.

Actually, the way gambling works is "you might win, as in the chance isn't zero, but you should usually expect to lose".

Why waste money on virtual items where the base chance% is not disclosed? If your happy to do this then you have to accept what you end up with. All these items have zero entry value as the prices are dictated within the community market but what they all have in common is they aren't real.

Why waste money on virtual items where the base chance% is not disclosed? If your happy to do this then you have to accept what you end up with. All these items have zero entry value as the prices are dictated within the community market but what they all have in common is they aren't real.

1. If probabilities were disclosed, they might lose money as people could calculate expected values (though anyone who would do this is probably already not opening cases.
2. Not disclosing probabilities means that they can reserve the right to change these probabilities anytime they want, without making any public indication of a change.

They don't need to disclose probabilities because the concept isn't recongised as gambling but even so; that's more reason for users not to invest in things like this which aren't transparent.
