Online fighting games with good population numbers right now
Right now I'm thinking of getting a fighting game, But I would like to know if any of them currently have a great or good populaion for online play, if so , which fighting games on steam?

I don't play a lot of fighters but here are some of the most popular on steam and their stats (collected from SteamSpy and SteamCharts via Enhanced Steam chrome extension). If you're interested in how many players a game has prior to purchasing decisions, you should get the Enhanced Steam extension, it also shows a wealth of other helpful information such as current sale prices on other sites and historical sale prices.

Mortal Kombat XXL - Players in the last two weeks: 54,593 - 69,501. Today's peak: 1,043
Street Fighter V - Players in the last two weeks: 47,760 - 61,760. Today's peak: 1,367
Ultra Street Fighter IV - Players in the last two weeks: 18,193 - 27,207. Today's peak: 204
Tekken 7 - Players in the last two weeks: 76,896 - 94,406. Today's peak: 2,396

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite just released and might be interesting to you. Injustice 2 is coming soon.
