Too many Rogue-Like RPGs, Not Enough Classic Action RPGs
As the title would suggest, I feel the need to point out the huge disproportion of Classic RPG games to Rogue-Likes.

I am the Atari, NES and SNES generation. So I am huge fan of games such as Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Illusion of Gia, Terranigma etc

As a result I often find mylself seeing a pixel art style game appear on the store page, getting excited thinking a decent action RPG may have finally have come along: to only then find it is a rogue-like RPG on further examination.

Whilst the Rogue Like genre has its merits, they generally do not compare(in my humble opinion) to the before mentioned classic action RPGs in terms of engaging story telling, character progression and just the depth in general.

Something that has further contributed to the demise of action RPGs, is the every flavor RPG Maker that has been released. And ever since the market has been FLOODED with samey turn based RPGs at a dime a dozen. I am sure there are some diamonds in the rough... but that's a LOT of rough to go through.

So whilst Rogue-Like or Turn Based games haven't completely killed actions RPGs per say, they have certainly pulled the developers focus.

At any rate, 1+ for a developer to take the time to produce a decent action RPG to fill the void created by the other sub genres prevalence.

It has been far too long.

RPGs in general are going the way of the doodoo, in favor of "with rpg elements" think fallout 3 vs fallout 4. Morrowind vs Skyrim. Diablo 2 vs diablo 3.

Theres still the Jrpg, but who has the time anymore lol. Rougelikes are pocket sized rpgs-likes you can usually finish a run in a day or less. Who knows, maybe visual novels are going to kill the jrpg as they are the story but without the grind and way cheaper to make.

Regular rpgs also just rarely have those moments of rage that makes them as interesting to watch youtubers play.

There are tons of rpgmaker games on steam as well as rpgmakers (I have ace and MV) hich you can make your own.

The best rpg I've played this month on steam was Disgaea PC 1. Its a atactical rpg similar to final fantasy tactics but with more depth and humor. Also units can reach level 9,999. Disgaea 5 might get a pc release this year, but who knows.

I got a game called Hyperdimension Neptunia re birth 3, a jrpg for the steam summer sale but have yet to play it or any other neptunia game.

Theres recettear, mount and blade where you can run around during combat.

The old game quest 64 was an interesting hybrid of turn based and action game. As you took turns to attack, but during the monsters turn you can run around to try to dodge them.

Not to say I wouldn't want more action games with rpg elements like monster hunter on steam.

And well now a days instead of making a 3d action game instead of making it rpg heavy, you can make it voxel like 7 days, ark, subnautica and get more player attention with rpg-light.

I need to bring this thread up because it looks like there are no more classic action RPG around and only rogue like games.

You necro'd a 3 year old thread to say the exact same thing the OP said.

No its not. Its literally just repeating what the OP said. That's not relevancy. That's parroting.

Not to mention that various types of RPGS that aren't roguelikes get released every year.

Gotta love the sentiment, "If games I don't care about are being made, that means games I like aren't being made."

Ok, if you want to be helpful then post a list. Please do.
But read the thread carefully first, we're talking about classics action RPGs, not ANY RPG (tons of RPGs out there but hey, eben skyrim and the witcher are some of them).
Thank you

Ok so I'll start a new thread on the same exact topic as an existing one. Does it make more sense to you?

Make a post in Off-Topic. That has nothing to do with Steam, as Valve does not decide which games get made.
