Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

Lord of the Rings Mod Third Age II
My son bought Medieval Total War II and requires the folder kingdoms.exe to play the Lord of the Rings Mod, does anyone have any ideas how we do this part? Thanks

As already mentioned in your other thread, the mod needs the addon for Medieval 2 "Kingdoms" to work. So if you dont have it you need to buy it first.

It's possible that it is actually the error message caused by the mod's BAT file because it requires the kingdoms.exe which steam doesn't have. In that case a simple executable copy\rename will fix the issue (not sure whether the DLC is actually required, after all the executables are merged):

I see your giude and raise you one. That method unfortunately also ignores the mod's CFG file settings. Basically a last resort if all else fails:

hehe,i'm luvin this install method war :tgrin:
the ol' guard gonna need some help against you G so..
you can just copy the CFG over from the mod to the med CFG.it just gets overwritten on each fresh launch though,so you need to write protect it or remove the installscript.vdf file

for the record i launch SS 3 different ways on 2 different installs so i can run different setups of the mod

Setting the default CFG file to read-only sucks as any change you make via options will not be saved. Never mind short memories that can't recall what changes they made when it comes to playing another mod. That in turn leads to yet another thread with 'why aren't my changes saved'. It's at par with 'why does my game always launch the xyz mod' when they forget that they have used the launch options to start the mod.

So yeah, new guard for the win.

yeah,i do agree, all the methoding has caused all soughts of confusion, and the rename method is proberly the worst one,but i can't change any of that now..least i know what i am doing

I hate being right.

I mean apart from that M2TW release version that apparently does not support the BAT file principle (have yet to come across one) a simple copy\rename action of the medieval2 executable ONCE will have all mods running via their desktop shortcut.

Or using my universal batch file to make it compatible for disk AND steam, but that is more an issue for the modders.
