Seeking a good co-op RPG
I'm looking for a recent game. Something within the past 5 years or so. I'll list the features that I NEED and some features that I think would be nice. If you can think of anything, please share!

Needed Features:
-Co-op 2-4 players
-RPG
-Character progression (level ups, gear upgrades, stat upgrades, skills, etc...I don't like rogue-likes ALL the time, and that's all I ever see anymore, No perma-death)
-Real Time (no turn-based games)
-Pretty graphics (not high end graphics necessarily, but stylish or visually pleasing)
-Melee Focus preferred

-Nice Features:
-Paper Dolling (I like seeing new gear)
-Adventure based gameplay (LoZ, Darksiders, Oceanhorn, etc..)
-Regular Updates/DLC

If you can think of anything that you think would satisfy what I'm looking for please share. Again, try to keep the games relevant. I know there are games from the 90's and Early 2000's that might fit this description, but I've either probably played them or they're so dated that I will lose interest.

Thanks in advance!!!

are you looking for online co-op, or "couch co-op"?

Online.

Also, I've played a lot of big titles. I'm hoping to find a hidden gem.

I've played these co-op RPG's:
Divinity Original Sin 1/2
Diablo 1-3
Borderlands 1/2
Don't Starve Together
The Division
Warhammer: Vermintide

Probably a few others that I haven't listed...

Maybe this one? I don't know if it would qualify as "pretty graphics" in your eyes. I know it does in mine.

Haven't had a chance to play it yet so I don't know for sure how the progression of the character is done, or how the balance between melee and ranged character is made, but I know a few friends who fell in love with this game and "harass" me to play with them. The same friends I used to play Diablo 2 with and got me into Borderlands.

Moon Hunters is a wonderful game! It is rogue-like in a sense. You progress through a short campaign that is different eavery time and and is different depending on how you respond to the NPC's. There is no gear, but you upgrade your abilities through currency earned from kills and other activities. I own this one! ;)

Skyforge is a possibility? Multiple classes, arease to explore, skills, stat upgrades, clans, fast travel vehicles.
Maybe it's nothing your looking for but still a suggestion :)

Skyforge is an MMO, no? I seem to recall looking into it at beta and was deterred because it was very restricted in a lot of aspects. It's more futureistic, and you don't learn a multitude of skills, you pick 2 or 3 or something along those lines.

I could be VERY mistaken, I haven't looked since before it was released, I'll check it out.

I'm really looking for a multiplayer game that isn't an MMO or a Rogue-Like/Perma Death. It seems like multiplayer games come in one of like four models. MMO, Rogue-Like, FPS, Survival (I know there is more, but those four catagories have swarmed the market so bad it feels) and while there is nothing wrong with those games, I just want something else. Like a solid Adventure RPG that is multiplayer.

I mean, if we're talking about what I have tried:
Risk of Rain
Moon Hunters
Magicite
Rogue Lands
Necropolis
Barony
Hammerwatch
Vagante

EQ2
WoW
Rift
FFXIV
ESO
Gloria Victis
Black Dessert Online
TERA

ARK
Conan Exiles
Savage Lands
Life is Feudal
The Black Death
RUST
The Forrest

GIBZ
Caste Crashers
Pixel Junk Shooter
Tower Fall
Wahammer: End Times
Secrets of Grindea (Wonderful game if you haven't tried it, great adventure RPG!)

Most of those games fall into one of those catagories, with the last 6 being the exceptions, and those happen to be my favorite co-op experiences. I've played others, but those are some of the biggest names, and most recent stuff.

you can look at Terraria, almost all you want in the description is here with frequent updates, lot of gear and craftable stuff, you can build your own house, cabin, etc. This is more an exploration/action game than a RPG with experience/skill points.

I love Terraria actually, I've played almost all of it's "clones" if you would call them that. It is a really great suggestion, but I wouldn't call in a roleplaying game, it's more of a crafting/building game. If you like Terraria you should give Planet Centauri a shot. It has almost everything Terraria has, except it also has a pet system that allows you to capture pets with a soul crystal, and then train them and eventually evolve them!

Also, as for Skyforge, I don't recall it having this many classes, I didn't know it was a hub world (much like PS:O one of the greatest games of all time!) I am downloading SF now, and thanks to peer to peer downloads built into the launcher, a 15GB is going to take me about 15-20 minutes! Thanks for the great suggestion.

Please feel free to keep them coming. Someone sent me a message too, suggesting Heroes and Kings, so I have that one downloading now to check it out.

The truth is that this genre is very limited, and you've played most of it, unless you go into the Hack & Slash territory.

A few remaining ideas that might fit in but probably without being perfect :

Dead Island/Dead Island Riptide
Unepic is a really good multiplayer RPG, but not an action game (2D, combat system a bit too simplistic)
Dark Souls can actualy be really enjoyable to play as a co-op game, but it's a pain to join the same game than your friends.

Hands down, the Souls series (all of them) are my favorite games of all time! I'll struggle with finding someones sign just for the fun and excitement of it! (I SOOOO wish they'd remake Demon's Souls and give us the Land of the Giants..)

I think I had looked into UnEpic, it's the one about a table top gamer who gets thrown into a fantasy world? What do you mean it's simplistic? I mean, I don't need action/adventure style games, just something that doesn't feel stale, and something that let's me and my brother build characters together.
Ramza Beoulve Mar 15, 2017 @ 2:09am
Also, what about a co-op kind of Harvest Moon game? Does something like that exist?
Arghaab Mar 15, 2017 @ 2:28am
Yes Unepic is that game !

The combat system consist of switching between your weapons/magic mid-fight to use the optimal one for any given situation. The fun comes with multiplayer since friendly fire is a thing, and becomes very relevant when one of you decides to build a fire mage throwing giant explosive fireballs at your enemies.
You have to find a balance when building your character. You basicaly win a bunch of skill points with each level up, that you're free to spend as you wish, knowing that each piece of equipment will require different stats cap if you want to use them, including magic scrolls. 20 different stats so you can end up with very different characters.

If you like Dark Souls, I would definitely recomend Salt & Sanctuary. That's basicaly a 2D Soul game wich can be played in local co-op if I remember correctly.

And since we're disgressing a bit, Orcs Must Die 2 is a really good co-op game too. Tower Defense in wich you also control a character instead of just placing traps.
One of you will control a witch, the other a paladin, and as you go trough the game you can specialize into different directions. The paladin can choose to be very strong in melee with almost nothing ranged and no deadly traps, but using them as utility tools in order to slow down the enemies for example, or on the contrary focus on damaging the enemies with traps, and so on.

maybe a Gauntlet game, i haven't tried it so i can't give an interesting critic. However you can get it for in sale here. But like other Gauntlet, you can't get far alone.
https://www.bundlestars.com/en/game/gauntlet
-Fight of the dragon seem promising.

Castle Crasher is great pick too.
Rampage Knights in the same style.

7 days to die, still in early access with a lot of customisation but a survival game.

another suggestion but can be an interesting coop/vs not a rpg is Shellshock Live, an addictive turn based tank game like Scorched Earth.

don't have any other ideas, i'm more a casual/indie/retro player.:specterknight:
AblaZeD712 Apr 19, 2018 @ 2:09pm
Titan quest Immortal throne or TQ anniversary + ragnarok

One of the best multiplayer / LAN RPG game
Monk Apr 19, 2018 @ 7:38pm
It's a bit old now but hunted the demon forge is actually a really good two player co-op game, daft, funny one liners and some fairly solid hack and slash combat, it's not to long, but I'd definitely play it to the end :)
