Thanks for the warning about those MMOs. I'll try to avoid them. Shame they're almost all the same with that fantasy stuff though. It gets bland very fast I'd kill for a sci-fi MMO with tera's artstyle.

One plus about Defiance is the open-world driving that gets you to places real fast and has great physics too. Another is the insane amount of different weapons and upgrades you can have.
On the downside, armor equipment and skilltrees are neither exciting nor very effective compared to other FPS-heavy MMOs.
Quests are quite engaging but they are scarce and more or less only there to guide you from one area to the next and through it, rince & repeat.
It's nothing you will spend your lifetime on, there's only ground combat and its 90% FPS vs 10% RP but you will have some wicked fun for several weekends, shooting mutants and whatsnot or running them over.
But watch out, this is one of the MMOs where the AI is both willing and able to kill your character.
I played STO for nearly a year and it was interesting, fun and vastly different from what I have played before.
The only problem I found (at elast back in 2013 / 2014) was, that you had to be in a fleet (=guild) to achieve anything as pick-up groups rarely worked, both in away team missions or space battles.
B&S? The grind. THE GRIND. I mean I did enjoy it while I played it, but after a few months I decided that I know when to fold 'em ^^
