How long do steam hold certain card data on record ?
Now if you decide not to link a card to your steam account for purchases and literally use your credit card as and when you purchase, HOW LONG DOES STEAM KEEP THE CARDS NUMBER AND OTHER SENSTIVE DATA ?

Once the purchase is made and steam has confirmed actual receipt of said monies (so im not talking guarantee of payment through the various cards schemes but actually having the money) do they retain that cards personal details that they ask for when you make a purchase ?

Oh when and or if they do delete them, is it miltary grade deletion or just standard ?

Doubtful they'd reveal their archiving strategy. It's entirely possible that due to Tax reasons and auditing reasons they'd keep them for several years. It could be stored electronically, it could be a warehouse full of printouts.

I know that companies i have worked for and been involved in getting rid of archived records, that there were financial details going back at LEAST seven years.

Indefinately.
Various tax laws in jurisdictions require that such records be kept. So between VAlve and Valve's bank(s), your payment methods are pretty much stored forever. As required by law.

Sort of like how your email provider archives every email you send or receive .

this information is not needed to be known by you, seek professional help if your paranoia is that bad.

What are you talking about, this is my personal data, did you hear that, MY PERSONAL DATA, what hell makes you think i dont need to know what anyone does with my personal data.

You are clearly the most stupid person on the planet that does not understand data laws and the human rights act.

Thanks Satoru but sadly it does not address how long they retain that data. Much appreciated though.

I get what your saying but i could use steam vouchers that would be untraceable as their purchased with cash.

This being the case makes holding the card number number and the likes data rather mute, especially when we live in a cash society globally.

I think im going to have to write to value directly as after reading some of what Satoru kindly posted, it will all depend on where my transaction is handled and what agreement they have with value USA.

Thanks though, youve been helpful.

Thanks Karr

I know business data here where i am is held for 6 years but nothing becomes important unless its over 9000 pound purchase.
