Get a game you like. Or wait for a sale on a game you like. Or buy some csgo case keys and trade for a game you like.

Il post some suggestions tonight after work I have a notepad on my PC just for these kind of threads :)

Edit: copied from my post history instead.

Most of these games are potentially 1000 hour + games if you deditcate time into any one of them.

                                   OPEN WORLD SURVIVAL

7 Days to Die - Zombie Survival

Ark: Survival Evolved - Dino Survival

Astroneer - Space Survival

Farsky - Underwater Survival

Rust - Post Apocalyptic Survival

Stranded Deep - Island Survival

Subnautica - Underwater Survival

                                           SURVIVAL

This War of Mine

Sheltered

Raft - only found on itch.io

                                         OPEN WORLD

Skyrim - Steam Workshop mods

Skyrim Special Edition - no Steam Workshop but mods available elsewhere.

GTA V

Far Cry 2

                                         SIMULATORS

American Truck Simulator - Still relatively early in development but hours of fun

Euro Truck Simulator - Same as ATS but based in Europe and much much further developed

Surgeon Simulator - Despite being purposfully difficult once you learn the mechanics its super fun

Cook, Serve, Delicious! - Really fun and challenging Cooking game i highly recommend this one

                                     FREE TO PLAY (F2P)

Dota 2 - Huge playerbase, its free and i personally haven't played it enough to say much more yet but if so many people play it, it must be pretty good

Team Fortress 2 - Huge playerbase, its free and there are a tonne of different modes to play with workshop maps and items also included i highly recommend it

Clicker Heroes - While this game has 'cartoony' graphics, its actually a very in-depth and complex game to master. The Steam Community Forums for this game are mostly mature and willing to help new players. For a casual clicker game like this, its probably the best out there.

I see Sniper Elite 3 and 4 are on your wishlist. Have you tried V2? It's an excellent game too.

I had played it to completion on Xbox 360, is it a good idea to get it for PC or are the two pretty much identical?

I'm not sure, I haven't played the console version, but they should be identical.
Perhaps check out my wishlist, I've got some really good games there.
From what I've seen on youtube, I'd recommend Conan Exiles, 7 days to die and Stalker series.

With $40 and some patience you could buy around 29,000 XP.
