Is there a lot to do in Fallout: New Vegas?
So, I'm considering starting this game, but I have a few reservations. Primarily, is there a lot to do, and due to its age, do the graphics affect immersion?

I played Fallout 4 (rather thoroughly), and I really did not like it -- I just couldn't get into the story, above all else. It had a few neat features, like building settlements with custom houses and buildings that you could put a lot of time into (I'm aware of many of the issues, especially some of the elements involved with settlements [a settlement needs your help], but I don't want to get too into them, as I just want to provide anyone that may reply with a little information about my thoughts). I know this specific feature isn't in NV, just so you don't get the wrong idea.

Aside from the graphics question, I'd just like to know, I suppose, if there's maybe more than just quests (which I guess sounds a bit silly after typing it out) to help me feel at home in the world, rather than just visiting for missions.

Sorry if this was a little hard to follow, I've been on the game page, then quickly jumped over here to ask my questions in somewhat of a rapid fashion. Thank you for any feedback.

New Vegas and its dlc are very good and fun. But if you didn't care for what was in Fo4 ... y'know it's the same universe and all. There are a lot of great characters in NV, and the Black Mesa... um, Big Mountain dlc is to die for.

The graphics in fo3, nv, are both really really dull, unfortunately. It's not that they aren't reasonable quality, it's that they're the same grey-and-brown you'll see in literally every single post-apoc game.

But for my part, since I live in southern california, I recognized a lot of places and the game itself is just fun as heck. There's no settlements so you don't have that repeatable mmo-style nonsense. (not that I would ever say no to a fallout mmo, just... omg repetitive much)

Fallout nv everything is pretty flat and bland with invisible walls in odd places because the game was as rushed as possible. Also psychic stealth/sneak detecting OP death claws will kill you if you try to not follow the early game path the devs only want you to go.

If you want cool locations, Fo3 beats NV hands down with things like battling inside the white house, all the monuments. Some people say NV has the better story telling, but things in NV just aren't finished like the roman empire guys.

NV has a lot of the popular FO3 mods baked in, but I still think the FO3 versions are better. F03 wanderers edition with weapon mod kits is just so much better than the similar NV mod pack.

In FO3 your with your character from birth until death so you have a connection to them, theres a mod called Ties that bind so you also go through the whole game with a voiced sister for greater immersion. While NV your some guy that got capped in the head and wake up. And I'm suddenly suppose to care about them and the near empty town you start in. Also like, even NV dlc hurts it because you'll start out spammed by a ton of dlc item starter pack things.

You can of course get FO3 and New vegas and then get the mod tale of two wastelands that combines the two into a single game. But thats pretty technical.

I tried mods for both games and besides the New vegas settlement building mod I just felt that the FO3 ones were superior. Wanderers edition has so much packed in. Then metro cars + dc interiors + A world of pain gives you so much to explore.

If drab colors are a problem for you, there are many mods for FO3, NV, FO4, etc.

I don't know about you but the technical issues fo3 has already turned me off when i started the game. Into the game it felt a bit bland, whole lot, actually. Theres no real goal for you other than chase the whole washington to find your dad. After you found your dad you're forced to help the BoS to conqure the whole wasteland. Fnv on the other hand, Feels alot more colorful and vivid. You get to chose your own ending *Spoiler alert* after you killed Benny. You can chose to bring justice or chaos to the wasteland. Your game? Your story.

Yeah for story in a main game (not dlc or side-quest based) FNV is the winner. FO3 is ... meh. The only bit I really liked in it is the ghoul dlc. I mean they're FUN, they're all well worth playing. But 3 is the lowest on my totem pole. NV is a high middle, and 4 I just liked overall for size, variety of locations, the dlc and side stories. The main story on 4 was... practically nonexistent, but the rest was all quite good. NV was better all around except for the blah colors.

4's story was worse than fo3, for me atleast. it seems bethesda just used the same obsidian's fnv's reciepe to make fo4.
