Good game. I have the disks for it.
I saw this 10 years ago at gamestop, there's a new game similar to this called call to arms from the men of war devs, but they haven't managed to do much at all with any air units.
Can this game be modded? I mostly shelled out games like men of war and arma for their editing features so i can create custom content. I'd be happy to create something using this game as a platform

I thought of making a game like this in unity, one guy managed to make such a rts game by himself but it ended up not meeting people's expectations since one man can only do so much...
Yes but these are decade old titles though and also long abandoned. Looking at the most recent titles (syrian warfare, call to arms, act of aggression), none of them maybe apart from syrian warfare is really mimicking what world in conflict achieved with combined arms...
The DCS flight sims are really hard to learn (because they're proper sims I guess) but controlloing the ground forces of Combined Arms lets you play a more "commander" type of role without hands on driving/flying.

The game is too sim based don't you think? it's very detailed in terms of vehicle combat and driving but not much on the strategy side. Nothing like what i've said as far as i know on kickstarter so i assume no body has tried to make one since wargame.
And yes Wargame is the most recent one of that kind I can think of too.
Well a sim can be fast or slow based on how you set up the game. Arma is pretty instantaneous if you are familar with zeus modules and scripts. But the combat is a drag unless you're making a cinematic.
World in conflict and wargame did well in the sense everything is there, you can call in support, land and air units are well depicted and the games just feels whole. The only thing wargame did worse is the infantry mechanics which feel extremely clunky and cheap. If that was improved then the game would be almost on par with WiC (it still lacked in terms of support)
But it looks like that kind of game isn't marketable to the big companies, and small companies can't seem to dish out something like it?
Well Wargame ist still the best imo and then Airland Battle even thos it is not as populated as Red dragon. But ask any Wargame veteran they all say ALB was the best.
Games like it which was released after WiC and WG was TC Endwars but it flopped multiplayer as the ones in a team and that started right at the beginning got so powerfull that nobody could defeat their experienced units and they tooked care nobody could reach that level by killing you while trying to evac.
But I miss the times of WiC tho it was kinda hard to maintain Top 10 WR which tooked all my time and felt like a 2nd job just so you could have golden camo on your units...
Yeah like i said earier, big companies no longer cares and the only ones willing to work on sequels are small devs. But they have their own idea of what it should be and unless they let you mod the game it's what they make it to be.
Maybe if ubisoft decided they want to revive world in conflict there will be a future, but those companies focuses on lowest denominator markets and right now strategy is a mobile hit only. I'd even try making it myself since it is possible.
