buying steam accounts (hypothetical question)
I'm curious, and there isn't anything online that is in an way coherent. (unless i'm looking in the wrong places) I was wondering that if you ever bought a steam account, you log in, change the email and password to something completely different than it started off with, would the original owner still have complete control over the account? seen as he is the one that knows the first known passowrd or the first card number that was registered to an account etc.

Also, what extent of information about an account would someone need in order to gain access to said account. I'm testing how SAFE it actually is to buy an account. Any answers that can be raised is greatly appreicated, thank you. You da' best

Well for starters, buying a steam account is completly against their rules.

On top of that (If you don't get caught) the original owner will be able to redeem the account using the original username and password.

It's unsafe because anyone could have enough material to prove that they are the "real" owner of the account and they could restore it.
Don't do that stuff.

it's not safe at all. Maybe they wont reclaim it and you've not got an account, they could reclaim it a year or so down the line.

You may also find that they could have cheated on it just before selling it which could cause you and your "main" to recieve multiple VAC bans.

It's not a thread, it's called steams subscriber agreement.

Section C. Your Account
Your Account, including any information pertaining to it (e.g.: contact information, billing information, Account history and Subscriptions, etc.), is strictly personal. no , it's not safe ... even if you change the password and email attached to it there is still a chance that the original owner could still reclaim the said account by providing a proof of purchase to valve/steam.

It's not a thread, it's called steams terms of service.
That states that we are unable to talk about this subject, it's not like i'm advocating the use of it?

That's all well and good, i'm not disagreeing with that. I agree witht the subscriber agreement. However cSg said "does not matter. it is something that is not to be discussed on the steam forums." He is saying we aren't even allowed to TALK about it, i'm NOT advocating the use of buying/selling accounts, i was curious and i wanted to ask the question. It's like talking about a bank robbery and someone saying "oh you can't talk about that because the act itself is illegal," that's idiotic.

However, if you prove me wrong and show me proof that we aren't allowed to TALK about the subject, i won't continue to talk about it.

you say... "buying steam accounts (hypothetical question)" and then follow up with...

"I'm testing how SAFE it actually is to buy an account. You da' best" [/quote]

contradicting the topic.

sounds like you are phishing for info on how to go about scamming people.

this is why it should not be discussed on the forums.
