I can honestly say that the Steam community is one of the friendliest gaming communities I have been a part of. Sure there are some bad apples, but you’ll find them wherever you go.
Games like CS:GO & Dota2 used to intimidate me too, but after playing some you’ll realise most people are friendly enough to except you’re new to these games and still learning the ropes & are happy to help you along the way.
TF2 is a great one to dive into – it’s easy to pick up and the objectives are straight forward and it’s just a fun game to play!
I would also second what Creasy said - having an open profile just looks more welcoming.
Also, No need to be shy, 95% of people are nice, the odd ♥♥♥♥ in the mixture though!
