Cannot get Steam to run games in 64 bit mode.
Steam is downloading games onto Drive:D but the games are running in 32 bit mode and I need them to run in 64 bit mode, there is a "Program Files (x86)" folder on on D drive but if I move my Steam Library folder into it then Steam can't find the library. I am running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit so why are 64 bit games running in 32 bit mode?
Any help sorting this problem out will be appreciated.

Games will run in either 32 or 64-bit if they are programmed to run under those. You can't just make them run in 64-bit if they don't have it programmed for 64-bit.

Hi, software developer here! Whether a program will run in 32 or 64 bit depends on how the software is actually built. Many games have a 32 bit version as well as a 64 bit version for those who have an OS that can run it, but nothing says they HAVE to code it for both (after all, it's extra work, and more hardware can run 32 bit than 64) This is also why you have two different program files folders, one for 32 bit software, and the other for 64.

Hope this helps! :wizard:

Perhaps I should try and explain the problem in more detail................
My grandchildren use a program called "WeMod" and from what I can gather it modifies the games in a certain way, now apparently the games do run in 64 bit mode if Steam downloads them to the X86 Program files directory on C drive. But they ran out of space on the C drive and had Steam download games to the D drive, now these games on the D drive are running in 32 bit mode according to this "WeMod" program and they need them to run in 64 bit mode.
Does this make sense to anyone?

Again, where a game is installed does not matter.
Either a game is 32Bit, or it is 64Bit.
Only a very few games actually offer both and usually there is a setting that allows to select which mode you want.

What game are you talking about that needs to run in 64Bit?

Most games(and other programs in general) run exclusively in 32-bit. Besides, an executable can only be 32-bit or 64-bit, not both at once or interchangably. So, since almost all games have only one executable, it can't just switch like that.

+1 Most off the games are running 32 but you wont lose any performance from it, so some games only support 32 bit

I'm not sure if that cheat/mod client can cause a VAC ban in your account, be careful.
