Transferring my Steam Account ownership to my son
This question may have been asked in the past and if so, I wasn't able to find it. I was able to find *lots* of discussions asking how to transfer games from one account to another, and even more responses to those questions saying that it couldn't be done, (Which answered the question that I was initally going to ask before I could ask it...)

In light of all the answers to my unasked question, I have decided that I should just transfer ownership of my existing steam profile (with all the games attached to it) over to my son. Most of the games attached to the account were bought for him anyway so the account itself is more his than mine in practice than in actual name anyway, I may as well make it formally his.

Provided no money changes hands (My son doesn't have any anyway and I'm certainly not going to pay him to take ownership of the account), is this permissable? If so, how do I do it? Would changing the email address and profile details (name, age, etc.) be sufficient, or do we have to formally notify Steam Management of the change in ownership?

Thanks in advance for assistance rendered,

Doug

I think just changing the profile details and email address is sufficient, but I'm not sure.

Steam Subscriber Agreement.

You may not sell or charge others for the right to use your Account, or otherwise transfer your Account, nor may you sell, charge others for the right to use, or transfer any Subscriptions other than if and as expressly permitted by this Agreement (including any Subscription Terms or Rules of Use) or as otherwise specifically permitted by Valve.

However, why not just Family Share your son your games?

Maybe if he works and earns he can later create his own account under his name and buy the games he wishes.

I'd advise against notifying Steam Support, since that is technically against the Steam Subscriber Agreement. The best way would be to just change the email and password, like you have said. He could then edit his profile as necessary. Family sharing would be a short-time alternative, though you'd have to log into his computers (and almost every time the client updates).

He's the main user of the account anyway, and there are times when I'd like to stuff around with just one game (Skyrim), and I can't do that if he's doing the same thing at the same time.

I figured I'd just create a new account, buy another copy of Skyrim and then let him have the everything in the first account.

Pretty much that. It's against the SSA. So even if you did say just give him the password and change the email address on it. YOU would still be liable for anything done with or charged to the account and it's saved payment methods which means you would also beat the mercy of his security practices.

So if you're gonna do it. Just make sure none of your payment info is saved.
