Are purchasing Games permanent?
Hey there.

I'm almost somehow new to Steam.

I'm looking to buy games digitally through Steam. but the thing that gets me is, could I own the game permanently after I purchase it?

Regards.

hi there, you don't own the game. its the license of the game you own..........

^ In general though, yes, once you have bought it, it is in your library forever attached to your Steam account.

Once you bought it or accept the gift of a game, it stays there forever.

Dear Rebel Man,

You keep the game as long as it is not a temporary subscription, for example iRacing, and some other games. Just make sure it is not a subscription if you dont want to keep paying, most popular games are Pay Once. Even though you can buy DLCS, those are optional.

I hope this helps,

All purchased games are permamently tied to your account. Thats true even in the case if the publisher moves the game off Steam.

I own at least 3 titles which are not purchaseable anymore.

Some third party free MMORPG are maybe not that permanent, but well as they say don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Some games are refundable

It's permanent in your steam account, you just have to install the game onto the computer you're playing.
This works even if you have upgraded/change your computer, you could still play the games in your steam account. :whiterun:

yes
It's about as permanent as Steam is.
You will have a licence to play the game, you will not own the game, the company that made the game owns the game.

What you can do is buy the game and use the game, just as you can buy a movie and use a movie, although you cannot illegally copy the movie and share it, with steam, it prevents you from sharing the game via copy-paste as it will require you to log into steam and have the game in your account.

No, you do not technically own the game.
Yes, you can use the game at your free will.
