Is my 500w power supply okay for using a Radeon RX Vega 56 as an eGPU?
A friend gave me the graphics card for free, and it's looking like getting an eGPU chassis for the laptop I already have could be cheaper than building the rest of a desktop. From what I've researched the power draw should be low enough(200-250W), but I don't want to ruin the PSU(at time of purchase $40, 500W unit) or the new GPU. The power supply itself ran an Antminer Z9 mini(300W power draw) for over a year with no issues, but has been sitting in a box in my closet for over a year.

ChatGPT is known and notorious for creating false information on a format made to sound convincing. I am not basing and will never base the well-being of hundreds of dollars worth of equipment on a program known for egregious mistakes and misinformation.

Nope. Get better PSU. 500W is not enough. Vega 56 is known to go above it TDP rating and even if it doesn't 500w is cutting it too close. Don't cheap out on PSU and then later cry about bricked system.
