Ridiculous levels of security
Ever since joining Steam I've been constantly mithered by various pop-ups regarding security... verify my email, enable Steam Guard, enter the code we just sent to your email, give this PC a friendly name.... do this, do that...

I buy my games through PayPal, so is all this nonsense really necessary?

At somewhere like amazon, you're constantly kept logged in, and can even buy things with a single click of a button. If the world's biggest online retailer can keep it simple, why can't Steam?

I heard of a lot of people's accounts getting hacked, so it's probably just Valve trying to keep account stealing and hacking down. Necessary to an extent.

Shouldn't see a bunch of security stuff after initial steam setup though.

There's a lot of hackers and phishers on Steam. Some players spend a ridiculous amount of money on Steam, whether it's games, items, etc. If a hacker were to hack into your account, and steal all your items, you're outta luck because of Steam's item restoration policy. Steam won't restore any items because it's your responsibility to secure your account.

When i moved, i had to close my old email and get a new one and the old email was no longer active as it was deleted. So when i tried to ativate my acccount i couldnt get in and it was terrible to get into my own account even when i had all the information including my secret passwords, and address and everything they would ever ask me. But theey wouldnt do it. it took months for it to get resolved. All i wanted to do was pay for a new game too? Imagine? LOL I told them so many new ways as giving people things like secret questions to answer and such but apparently theey didnt take my advice. :(

I belive that is why they are adding the mobil phone security thingy as well.
People in general are dumb and fall for ridiculous phishing schemes all the time. They lose tradeable items, games and even give up account info so others gain access to it. Sadly, Valve has thrown the blanket over all of us, and we all must bear the burden of these morons.

Wait till your an adult and your insurance premiums go up because your neighbor keeps getting DUIs. Another blanket. Welcome to America. :steamfacepalm:

ROFL Im 54 years old! I'm probally more of an adult than most on here! When i tried to give them my steam Id prooving who i am, and such there was no way to do so as they have no safe mode to not only protect us, but also help us at the same time like even banking or other implentations do online. They could install things like security questions, or have a actually phone number to talk with someone for this very thing for ID purposes varyfying a list of questions that could be asked over the phone that we have put down ahead of time that only we would know for times like these. But nothing is done.. Its very frustrating to say the least..

I'm with OP. There's less security on most checking accounts. It's overkill. And how does someone "steal" your games? They are attached to your account, they can't log in to it and transfer it to another can they?

They can't steal your just your games, they would just steal your whole account. (which would allow them to play your games and lock you out with the only way to reverse that being the mobil phone authentication)

Blame all the users who keep getting their accounts hijacked, skins scammed and clicking on obviously questionable links ruined it for us all. We use to not have to deal with all this nonsense, but...they never learned so now we're all forced to deal with it.
